Here are the lessons i learnt and a little contribution to Bro Eli teachings;
WHAT IS BAPTISM?
Baptism is the washing away of sins according to the bible, it is a period of repentance. It symbolises purification and commitment to God.
JESUS CHRIST DOES NOT NEED TO BE BAPTISED
I Peter 2:22 "Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth".
The motive of baptism is for repentance and remission of sin. Jesus christ has nothing to repent of because He did not commit any sin, For all the thirty years He lived with His mother Mary and His Foster Father Joseph there was no record of sin or any case of sin from His brothers, neighbours and everyone.
THE BAPTISM WAS AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL CHRISTIANS TO IMITATE
Mark 10: 39 And they said unto Him, we can and Jesus said unto them, ye shall indeed drink of the cup that i drink of, and with the baptism that i am baptized withal shall ye be baptized.
Jesus christ used this bible verse has an example for His disciples and His followers, also a demonstration extended to us as Christians and believers to follow. We need baptism because of the washing of our transgressions which is our spiritual rite as Christians, an admission into the Christian church.
Act 2:38
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Act 22:16
And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
JESUS DID NOT INSTRUCT US TO BE BAPTIZED WHERE HE BAPTIZED
Mark 10:39
They said to Him, “We are able.” So Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized.
Jesus didn't instruct us to be baptized at river Jordan where He was baptized. He is telling us about "BAPTISM" and not the place of baptism which is Jordan.
POINTS AND LESSONS TO NOTE
- Jesus has no sin in him, He doesn't need to repent therefore was not applicable to Him. He only demonstrated for us to follow according to the bible.
- Baptism is not a ritual rite to name a baby. Those who are been baptised already have their names.
- Jesus lived an earthly life to be manifested in the flesh to demonstrate how a life of a Christian must be lived while on earth especially on the religious side of life.
- It is not only in river Jordan a Christian must be baptised, John the baptist did baptism in other rivers according to the bible.
