Life can be tough at some point. There are numerous things that keeps our heads and minds busy and worried. But being able to be at peace in a storm is an art. And so important was this sort of artistry to Fred who was soon to become a target for bullying from colleagues. Fred was a 7year old pupil at the City Elementary School. In his class there was a higher population of males which implied a high level of struggle for supremacy. The supposedly weak males were not given a chance to lead a discussion or counter any opinion made by the strong guys. The class was always chaotic when the teacher was absent for a moment. During playtime some of the strong males would seize the chance to settle some issues that seemed they were being pushed to the wall. This domineering spirit has lived with mankind ever since man became conscious of the environment.
When compared to others Fred was a quiet and gentle individual. His parents had taken time to indoctrinate him into a life of simplicity. From the little monthly income received by his father they were able secure a 2-bedroom apartment that should accomodate two parents and 3 children. They never desired to purchase anything that is above their means. Fred had grew to accept that possessing a little in an atmosphere of peace was more preferrable to having much and lacking rest in the mind. His family members were not known to covert what belongs to others. They found satisfaction in what they had. Fred wholeheartedly extended his family values to life in school. Many pupils and teachers desired his company because of the excellent disposition he displayed. But with this influx of admirers also drew the envy of the strong males. They saw his growing prominence as a threat to their dominance.
On a faithful day, a Thursday, while on his way home Fred was accosted by the group of bullies from his class. Their aim was to harass and intimidate him into dropping his "coolness" and take up cowardice instead. This mission was an attempt to brake Fred. But just the day before, Fred had drew strength while in his secret place. Away from the noise of the neighbours and his siblings he had medidated on the success story of the merchant whom he watched on television that same evening. The merchant had achieved success in the face of competition from fellow business owners. He was a honest businessman who upheld integrity. He was always sincere with his clients and never cheated on them. This sort of "goodness" wasn't the general norm for the other business owners. They had tried severally at putting him, the merchant, out of business but kept failing. On an occasion he was blackmailed for an incident that he wasn't the culprit. But the merchant never hated them. His aim was to thrive and be successful. And the merchant achieved just that. Therefore, Fred was armed and ready to counter any thought of defeat from the raging host of males of his class. Their ill-words that afternoon meant nothing to Fred. He was a step ahead of them. He smiled althrough the encounter. Fred always would find an oasis of calm in the midst of a storm.
Always keep your head above the water.
