A victim explains why those who suffer sexual violence can take YEARS to talk about an abuse they suffered and that is because there are several reasons:
-The abuser and his allies destroy the reputation of the victim. "He just wants fame" "It's pure fashion"
-When they decide to speak, victims are often questioned instead of receiving support. "Why did you stay?" "Why do you say so far?" "Why did not you defend yourself?" "Why did not you scream?"
- Sometimes the victim must remain in contact with his abuser as in family or work meetings.
-The victim has to lose his job, his opportunities, his "normality" ... or even his life.
-The victim tries to convince himself that it is easier to "LET IT PASS".
-The victim does not know who to turn to, how to report or if it is worth doing.
-As he did not report immediately, the victim believes that he can not do anything.
-The victim believes that the abuser is more powerful or famous or appreciated ... and that no matter how hard he tries, everything will remain the same.
LUCKILY EVERY TIME MORE VICTIMS ARE RAISING THE VOICE AND INSPIRING OTHERS TO DO IT. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE.
IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER IT AND GIVE SUPPORT. IF YOU KNOW SOMEBODY HELP HIM/HER
