#373 - At Lumiang, a burial Cave where old ancient pile of coffins are stacked on top of each other.
Happy Saturday evening to all my fellow Hiveans. I am sharing some old photos taken when we were on a couple of days vacation back in Sagada but before that let me share some of my activity earlier today. Though I still feel dizzy because of the medicines I took to cure my chills, runny nose and sore throat I did the laundry 🧺 at eight in the morning because we have a lot pilling up already so those needs the be taken care of today.
Moving on to our photos of the day, we were already deep under the Lumiang Cave where there is an opening where light passes through and my wife took this opportunity to take some remembrance photo.
The light from the sun outside give natural lighting as well deep down as we can see here in these two next photos. My wife sat on the large stone and stands beside it after.
To give an idea what the coffins look like up close, here they are the wooden coffins made from trunks of huge carved pines. The practice of putting the remain of their old ancestors has been done for a hundreds of year and they have put a stop to it in the late 1980s because the local people have started to get urbanized so they learned to move on to their ancient rituals but for other tribes they still practice it up to this time I believe.
As we were down the cave already, we can see clearly that they installed these metal barriers so tourists will not go up to the coffins for pictures taking.
There are other metal barriers installed at the cave entrance but still provide a decent up close view of the coffins from different angles.
My wife with the ancient coffins in the background. The coffins are stack on the side wall and the guide with us that day even said that during a high intensity earthquake in the past, some of the coffins tumble down the cave and to the underground water system that is why some of the coffins can be found underground which I didn't have a photo of as a sign of respect to those who got there in the river. The locals didn't put them back on anymore because they don't know who the relatives of those ancient coffins are anymore.
Follow me on my nature travels.
