BANDA ACEH - North Aceh District Government is considering building a container terminal at the Krueng Geukeuh Public Port to boost exports. Meanwhile, the development plan will involve PT Pelindo I.
North Aceh Bupati Muhammad Thaib said the development of seaports is essential to boost Aceh's economic growth. North Aceh, called Thaib, is a strategic port location for Aceh's economy as it is located on the Malacca Straits.
"We are exploring the development plan, there is a vacant lot in front of the port, and will use the state budget," he said.
Thaib explained, Krueng Geukueh has great potential to be developed. One of them with a 2,400 soft power tugboat facility that can pull and push the ship out into the dock.
"In addition, the depth of water when receded reaches 9 meters so it is suitable for loading and unloading the vessel with a capacity of 15,000 tons.This is very promising Unfortunately export activity is not here," he concluded.
So far, commodity export activities from Aceh still exist that are done in the ports of other provinces. In October 2014, BPS Aceh noted that rubber is still exported through Belawan with a total value of US $ 129,105.
