"Make $3,000 In A Week Or You're Homeless" GULP!

in #business8 years ago

If you've been wondering why I've essentially caught only a few hours of sleep in the past two days while I aggressively build this new sales page...here's why...

I remember when I built my FIRST sales page.

I was in college and I was in some serious shit. I had to make $3,000 in a week or else I was going to lose my apartment, lose my car, and that meant having to leave college.

I hit up someone I saw making a lot of money online over Facebook messenger and essentially just kind of freaked out asking them what they thought I should do.

They popped in their phone number and told me to call.

I was terrified. I don't remember ever being on the phone with someone who was making that kind of money before.

Anyway, I called the number...

...and essentially just freaked out again rattling off what my situation was and asking what he would do if he was me.

He told me that my head was in the problem...

...and that it needed to be in the solution.

After that he told me that since Facebook cover photos were launching soon and I was a good designer, I should bundle up some Facebook cover photo graphics and sell them on the Warrior Forum.

I did something right: I LISTENED.

I spent the next few days tirelessly creating dozens of Facebook cover photo designs to get ready for the launch.

Friends were running around getting laid, going to parties, having fun. I was glued in front of my computer screen.

The last day before the launch, I sat and worked at my desk for 25 hours in a row only taking breaks to go to the bathroom. I piled my food for the day on the desk so I wouldn't have to leave.

I put in the fucking work.

And when I handed the product and sales page to my mentor (absolute dog shit to the quality of stuff I produce now) he told me that I had just built an asset that could make me money for life.

That hit me hard. I had never done that before.

The next thing he said was "We're going to send a little bit of traffic to this thing for you."

I think he emailed a little list of 7,000 people or something.

I went out to a party at my friend's house (not something I'd ever do again on launch day lol) but anyway, I needed to unwind. But as the party progressed, everyone was up and raging and I was sitting on the couch with my jaw dropped staring at my phone.

I saw the first sale come in.

Then the second.

Then the second person bought the upsell.

The the third and fourth sale came in during the same minute.

I was freaking out (in a good way).

Sure I had seen people do launches and stuff before, but I had never been the one doing it.

I also was sending ZERO traffic (because I didn't even know how).

But I had BUILT SOMETHING that I saw now could make me money without me even having to be the one who sends the traffic to it! That hit me hard and showed me what was possible.

The first day I cleared $1,000+ profit.

Same thing happened the second day.

Same thing happened the third day.

Then he stopped sending traffic and I didn't really send any traffic and it started to fade off.

I had hit my goal. And I had made the $3,000 I needed to make in a week in THREE DAYS.

I got in my car, drove to the Dean's office and dropped out on the spot. I dedicated myself to full-time entrepreneurship and told myself I would never let ANYTHING get in the way of that ever again.

That one little sales page I built changed my path forever.

You see, this thing had the POTENTIAL to start when that mentor gave me the idea for the product sales page to build.

But it didn't become even .0001% real until I rolled up my sleeves and actually started BUILDING those things.

Too many people in this industry don't build.

The people at the top do. They always do.

And they've usually ALWAYS built the most.

If there's anything you need to build for yourself that you've been procrastinating on, I hope this story inspires you to roll up your sleeves and start getting shit done.

And if you're someone who looks around at your business and realizes you haven't really BUILT anything (minus relationships and skills) then I'd suggest diving in head-first and building some assets that can make you money without YOU being there.

Your business, results and SANITY will thank you for it.

Very inspiring, and shows the true value in taking opportunities when they arise, just as many people have done here on steemit.

Thanks James! Yup important to take opportunities when they arise but only if they are the RIGHT ones.

Awesome story. If you never get your head in the game then you are doomed to sit on the bench watching other players score.

So true! And sad to see. Most people sit on the sidelines in business and just soak in training but never take action. Equivalent to wanting to be a player but just watching players the whole time from the stands instead.

I laughed at the part when you dropped out of college. I'm glad you saved your money.

haha thanks man. Spontaneous decision but a long time coming!

Really wonderful story. Thanks for sharing :)
