Is Virginia The Most Business-Friendly State?

According to the recent 2019 America's Top States for Business study that was conducted by CNBC for the 13th time, Virginia is the most business-friendly state in the country.

The study analyzes the states across a number of different categories including cost of doing business, the regulatory environment, the education system, and more.

According to their investigation, Virginia ranks at the top, followed by Texas in 2nd place, North Carolina in 3rd, Utah, and then Washington in 5th place.

Previously, it was Texas that had been named the most business-friendly state in the nation.

But just what is the regulatory environment like in Virginia? Because the worse that the occupational licensing rules are in the state, the more difficult that it is for someone to start their own business.

Previous studies on work licenses, from back in 2012, have found that Virginia has the 8th most burdensome licensing laws in the country. Overall, Virginia was seen to be the 11th most broadly licensed state.

Still, many are concluding that Virginia is presently the best state to be doing business. Surprisingly, with business-friendly regulations being cited as a main factor.

The more that people need to ask permission before they can engage in peaceful exchanges with others in their community, the worse off that they are going to be. An environment which fosters entrepreneurship and innovation is one that seeks to embrace such exchanges rather than forcing individuals to be subjected to a round of violence first, demanding that they pay fees, submit to various education requirements, and forcing them to meet other demands.
