I worked at a UX-design company for about three months last year and while I didn't work as a designer, I did work as a marketing intern and that made me realize a lot of things that are wrong with UX and UI design. I also developed an interest in web dev while working there, but more on that later.
I have now worked (almost) a year at a coffee shop and while everyone is nice, the coffee is good etc. the sales system is terrible. Before we had a sales system that worked on the café iPad, which was terrific!
There were lots of different features:
- you could see the daily income, which was amazing;
- you could see which product was sold the most in that day;
- you could see how much money you're supposed to have in the register at the end of your shift (which was super useful, so you could check, if there was any money lost or such);
- you could very easily integrate a client card solution (+ a database with the clients' data, so you could find their name, if they forgot their client card at home);
- and so much more.
Since we are now a franchise of a bigger company, we went over to their sales system, which honestly sucks ass. We can do none of the things we mentioned before during our shift, only after our shift we can see how much money we made and if we counted the money correctly in the register. And there's so much paperwork. SO. MUCH. PAPER. IS. WASTED.
So here's my business idea...
Someone has probably already done this, but who cares. My startup idea would be to make a sales system, which would be accessible to every single restaurant, cafe, tool shop etc. And most important of all, it would be modular. You can change the sales system for your own liking!
For example: let's say you have two companies who want your sales system. One of them is a hostel (bed & breakfast sort of thing) and the other one is a cafe. For the hostel, you would need some way to check-in and check-out the guests - well, you'd have a module for that! But since the cafe doesn't need it, they can jus leave it out of their sales system.
Amazing, right? I thought so, ha.
And it would literally fix all UX problems
I mean, sure, it would probably need some good design and great security, different databases etc... but it can definitely be done. And be done in a way that everyone is pleased.
Yeah? Let me know your thoughts.
