War on Cash is Growing

The war on cash is getting stronger all the time and it seems now Visa, Inc is joining in on the campaign. A Wall Street Journal overview

Visa Inc. has a new offer for small merchants: take thousands of dollars from the card giant to upgrade their payment technology. In return, the businesses must stop accepting cash.

The company unveiled the initiative on Wednesday as part of a broader effort to steer Americans away from using old-fashioned paper money. Visa says it is planning to give $10,000 apiece to up to 50 restaurants and food vendors to pay for their technology and marketing costs, as long as the businesses pledge to start what Visa executive Jack Forestell calls a “journey to cashless." http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-13/visa-begins-bribing-merchants-stop-taking-cash

Taking away cash should bother everyone in my opinion including the cryptocurrency community. Everything fiat in digital form only takes away freedom and will be a stepping stone away from more regulation and control over what a person is "allowed" to do with their funds.

Sort:

Paper money should be replaced, but I have to admit that the time I will use crypto alone seems to be far off!

Thanks for commenting I think these elites need to let consumers choose which way they want to pay for items however companies like Visa want you deeper in debt.

So true like, if it continues the banks will just take their taxes out of your account and they don't need your permission and Oh! Yea, their tax is now 75% because you breath and are cause global worming.

Exactly just like some cards charge transaction fees they'll add a new fee to tax and monitor you buying a pack of bubble gum at a local store.

^^^^ haha obviously someone who didn't read. Any business that does that is just DUMB. You should never limit the form of payment you have. You could potentially be driving away $10,000 worth of business cumulatively. They will never be able to erase all forms of their own FIAT; unless they change the system.

That's what I thought to however this campaign against cash and wiping it out keeps going in new ways we don't always see.

But I thought crypto is not monitored by banks so how can they control the crypto Users?

Anytime you "allow" a person to only use one form to make payments is choking freedom. Banks are getting into crypto and they can use central banks to resist certain payments from crypto coins.

Wow bye bye 👋🏽

Yeah they tried it in India recently but the public pushed back.

I don't trust the cashless initiative. If everyone in the mainstream is entirely dependent on their imaginary digital money that the FDIC is no longer insuring... ugh, it's the premise of a bad Sci Fi film....

The movie 1984 is looking closer to reality all the time @stirling Thanks for commenting.

Thats great news.

Thx for the comment.

maybe it is a good idea to start making some form of local money to protect our local purchasing power to stand strong to 'big brother' money. Crypto's could help but might not be enough to help everyone of our local community,...

Precious metals could also help bridge the gap.

agree but people around me are not familiar at all with silver coins,... maybe it could be easier to start reusing the old Spanish coins (that contain silver) to start of but with the euro most of those coins were destroyed,... Here in Europe we look at more difficult solutions than US,... So I started to learn how to grow my own food! :-D
