Anyone who is an owner or CEO himself is inspired by a great idea or vision, does not need to motivate his or her employees with ever new goals or incentives. It is enough to spark in them the fire of enthusiasm. Greater creativity and commitment are the result.
Motivation is a leadership technique from the industrial age - and an extremely self-oriented practice. If we motivate other people, we want to trigger a certain behavior in them. It is supposed to cause what we are interested in.
The motivation is not the interest of other people, but our own interest. Motivation is something that we "do" with someone else, for example, a person so that he / she can make a lot of effort, put pressure on others and others to achieve our goals.
Motivation always required new rewards from the outside, inspiration needs a fire that moves indoors
Motivation is often only a strawfire
The dictionary describes motivation as: "delivering a motive, provoking, stimulating, driving". It makes no difference whether the motivation is based on an external goal or reward (extrinsic motivation) or whether we have to drive ourselves again and again (intrinsic motivation).
Frequently, we have to overcome resistances with ourselves or others with pressure or manipulation. Therefore, motivation (one's own and the other) is so exhausting. Moreover, because the effect of motivation usually declines rapidly, new incentives are always needed to maintain performance. Motivation is certainly not a self-runner, but often a straw fire of often only short duration.
Inspiration has a long-term and lasting effect on success
Inspiration is instead sustainable. It is the power of enthusiasm and awakens deep passion in Idelafall. People, teams and entire companies who are inspired and enthusiastic do not need any motivation. They are themselves active by the power of inspiration. Particularly highly qualified people often leave well-paid jobs where they were motivated for low-paid positions where they are inspired.
Inspiring entrepreneurs are first and foremost visionaries who win other human energies of their kind and their authentic being for their dreams and visions. They understand how to trigger internal images and positive feelings among the employees, which are connected with a larger idea or an ideal.
Often they are yearning for or dreams of a better (or improved) world in the widest sense, for which an above-average use is also worthwhile from the point of view of the employees. If the implementation of these visions also increases the company value and thus the security of the workplace, the perhaps cloudy inspiration becomes an additional foundation - consciously or unconsciously.
Consistency and authenticity arise when we do what we say
From employees' point of view, the risk of manipulation is reduced in inspired corporate cultures. Although the ideals of a better world are less concrete and can therefore be used almost arbitrarily for entrepreneurial goals. Following an inspired entrepreneur is also a question of consistency and authenticity.
Anyone who is not authentic and true as an entrepreneur or board member, managing director or owner, does not take away his high ideals and inspiration. Authenticity and consistency arise when we do what we say and remain human.
Mahatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela did not have to strive for their followers. None of them was anxious to get people to do something. She and many other inspiring people were just as they are. They did things that inspired others to follow them voluntarily and do the like.
Being yourself and exuding authenticity is one of the most powerful things one can do. And when one does get followers that way, you can be sure that they are true ones; not followers that are following based on a facade one has created. Great article exploring the meanings of motivation and inspiration!
