I’ve considered going back to the workforce periodically but I literally can’t even read job descriptions without getting depressed. “We want someone who is passionate about using a CRM!” The fuck? Who writes this shit?
Once you’re independent you realize that working for someone else as an employee is a step backwards, even if you’re being paid more. Maybe consulting gigs are okay, but freedom it too sweet to taste but once and never taste again
I totally get what you mean, I have read more than a few job descriptions that do something like that on Remote and go how high are the people that write these descriptions.
That said I have seen a few where they do own it so that it feels consistent.
Something like were looking for a Badass Content Creator and a description E.G.

Is still way better than the ones with a random line somewhere in the middle that says
"Working hard is your life, working smart is your mantra." / " You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork and accountability." that you see on indeed or workopolis.
Your right though Wage slavery is still the standard norm of society and will likely be that way at least in our lifetime, although tech moves forward so most mind numbing jobs will keep getting obsoleted.
Right now remote work and digital social media definitely provide the outlets of freedom and flexibility that the older generation never had in exchange for job security as we now live in the Gig economy.
That said not everyone is that great at managing their freedom since we were trained to be good employees at school not really independent entrepreneurs.
I had a friend over in Australia apply for a travel work Visa in IT and live there for a full year but he couldn't find a job with only six months experience on his record and spent most of it just travelling through Asia and other countries and now is trying to go back into the workforce.
Employee work is more just to get into a habit then once your good you can cruise on your own, as a lot of people lack the discipline to commit to remote straight away or they get to much of the taste of freedom and never actually do anything.
I have seen more than a few individuals get into that situation as an independent contractor myself, and collapse lacking the skill-set they taste the freedom of time then realizing that no money is coming in since they don't work end up back in a 9-5 job.
Good old ECOC (Emotion Cycle of Change) that said I'm glad to hear that you found some success in remote work as it does prove that it is definitely possible to enjoy the taste of freedom and be able to work anywhere, whether on a beach, or in the pool with your laptop nearby, and the freedom and the flexibility to work on your own time is great :)
