Flipping through the TV channels, I came across an interview with Don Larson, CEO and founder of the Sunshine Nut Company. Before this, Mr. Larson had worked for the Hershey Company as Director of Cocoa Operations. This meant that he traveled to various parts of the world looking for the best cocoa to purchase for his company. It meant that he was highly paid and could live an extravagant lifestyle, being able to purchase anything he desired - expensive cars, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, a hot air balloon, etc.
After 15 years, he found himself in a place of reflection. He decided that he had experienced "the good life" and now he was going to try to build a business model based on giving back and helping mankind. He chose Mozambique because his job with Hershey took him there to look for cocoa beans so he was familiar with the area and knew of the extreme poverty of the people.
He has given TED talks, and won global awards for his work.
