A few months ago I took a small tour through one of Puebla, Mexico´s most famous antique markets and it had a great response from the Steemians who read the post. Imagine my surprise when I found out there was a very similar market in the middle of Moscow where a lot of my fellow World Cup atendees bought most of the souvenirs they took back home for their families and loved ones.
I was dubious to make a post about Izmailovo, mainly because it seemed to me too simple and perhaps not interesting enough but I gave it a second thought and you know what, perhaps for me its simple because I´m used to flea markets and antique shops but who knows, maybe you are not so used to this kind of places and you´ll enjoy this mini tour around this famous antique/souvenir market.
I hope you liked this Photo Gallery! I wanted to take pics of people like in the Mexicna market Gallery but it was pretty hard this time because I didnt brought my camera, I took all the pictures with my phone.
I can't remember to be into an antique shop but I like spending time into different markets with souvenirs or traditional things. The only problem is that once I'm there I want to bring home some physical memories too not only for me but also for the loved ones and so everything is so beautiful you can never stop on buying only one.. or two..or three..lol
ohhh i love markets. btw i am surprised you woke up early for it hahaha
Sometimes he's an early bird and sometimes he goes late haha
Hahaha oh you are the second person to tell me this, I wonder if I´m giving the wrong impression of being a lazy traveller :P
not lazy just a late riser like me hahaha
Oh, damn. That's a rad antique market! Lots of really cool shit there from the pictures. Did you find anything weird/creepy while you were making your way through there? Curious if the place I've been going to and writing about recently on here is abnormal in that regard or not. And, well, it being Russia and all I'd figure there was some weird stuff available, haha.
They are very nice photos, I liked them a lot, taking into account that many of those things, like the dolls alone I have seen them in movies ... very good publication, they allowed me to travel through your camera. Thank you @anomadsoul
Yes, the Matriushkas are very famous around the world! Thank you so much for this, that´s the whole intention of my posts, that people can travel through my eyes :)
Oh cool... Ushanka hat, Matryoshka dolls and Soviet Flasks! They are classic and instantly recognisable souvenirs... like the Red Telephone Box or Eiffel Tower themed souvenirs... every one will know where you have been haha!
Exactly! Those are very specific from Russia (or maybe ex soviet union countries?) and people recognize those miles away!
Where are you from? Are you from Russia?
Ukraine... but these items are also available in most ex Soviet countries... sometimes with regional influences 😉
You live the life my friend. Being able to see the world through your eyes has helped my inexperienced eyes appreciate several different cultures thus far.
Thanks man! I try to, sometimes the posts come easy, sometimes I have to really make myself write them, inspiration isn´t always around :(
I get that. Some days I’m burning to share and others...I don’t want to say my heart isn’t in it, but that I have to reach deep to make something happen.
Haaaaa I actually didn't know what it's called now I do! 'Matriushkas' !! Last time when my fam went there, bought so much home but we couldn't do anything with it really LOLOL and this is really a photo gallery!
We have Matriushkas too in our antiquesl market infact it's a characteristic that very common in our markets as well, I went through your Mexican gallery as well, but the thing is I'm quite familiar and can relate with the things I saw however this market seems even intruging, those dolls and those shiny wares that looks like Bangles, I should say the Russian market has variety of souvenir that travellers especially the world cup attendees will take back, this place is swarming with commodity, even more sophisticated, I guess they're mostly made in Russia.
Amazing Gallery here @anomadsoul, beautiful too, you're having an incredible tour, last time it was London with that lovely lady
nice market! Looks like it was big! I like that lots of stuff is made of wood as opposed to plastic =) and the "fatty women" cracked me up lol
Yes! I loved that also, makes you think that whatever you buy will last longer than the plastic versions :D Lol I always try to put some humour in my posts so people don´t get bored while reading them :)
These photo look awesome! So much variety and everything is themed in a way :D
My favorite are those dolls in traditional clothes, I'd love to see them up close ^^
Oh, I couldn´t buy more than a few keychains with the fat ladies :(
Exactly, it´s as if every little shop dedicates itself to a specific product, giving other shops a chance to sell their own product.
I honestly love markets because they show so much of local culture - especially the people who are shopping! In my city the market is full of fish and veggies and cheap underwear and no-brand jeans, lol. Next to it now a 'market hall' has risen so the Hipsters can have a place to buy stuff as well - tomatoes cost three times the price of the outside 'original' market.
Exploring markets it´s definitely one of the best ways of getting to know local culture, because of what they sell but also because of the people selling them which are usually people born and living there.
Where do you live? That sounds very appealing for the non-traditional traveler, you made me curious!
I live in Rotterdam, The Netherlands! I've done the Googling of 'Markthal' for you :-) Absolutely amazing city to visit, especially if you want to understand more about The Netherlands than Amsterdam alone :-)
I love Moscow. Have been there just a few days ago. Currently, I am in Siberia and keep posting my experiences on my blog here.
Oh wow, another Russian! I wish I knew about the Russian community before going there and perhaps I would´ve been able to meet some of you guys :/
I am not Russian though. I am from Germany. But this is my fourth year of traveling to Russia! I love it here
You can notice that in Moscow he likes craftsmanship as in Mexico or other countries of America.
You had an entertaining ride in Russia after the soccer world cup.
This craftsmanship reminds me of a movie called the sorcerer's apprentice with Nicolas Cage.

It's looks nice market of Moscow
Nice photo👌👌
It really was amazing!
Interesting place! I want to visit this antique market.
(I have new drawings and would be great if you take a look at them;)
Are markets the same in Ukraine?
In Ukraine there is the Sorochinsky Fair, which is held once a year, and the other souvenir markets are very small.
These photos present Russian culture, Russia is an interesting country, I heard that in Moscow there are the most wealthy people, I have to go there one day, it is quite near me, what would you recommend to visit in Russia?
I saw a lot of expensive cars in the city and a lot of people spend a lot of money in night clubs in Moscow. I visited other cities and yes, the wealth level at least from my POV is lower.
I would reccomend to definitely go to Moscow, Samara, Sochi and Rostov.
ok, thanks for the answer :)
You really had so much fun in Russia @anomadsoul yeah?. Trust me, you are the real G.
Lol what does "real G" means man?
It means real man, real guy
You know, what really surprised me is that you went to the market very early in the day. You don't strike me as an early person 😉
Oh, it's always early somewhere :P
wow all things are so pretty 😍 I wanna go there
It was trully amazing!
Oh, such beautiful Russian souvenirs! Such magnificent scenery at the entrance!
Right? I was tempted on buying all of them!

It is amazing how many different items you can find in that market is like entering an antique store but bigger! If you travel to any country with this kind of markets and do not buy any souvenirs for friends you have no excuse lol

That's what people earned on the sale of souvenirs ...
