**4 BASIC ACTION STEPS TO HELP YOU SUCCEED.

**ACTION STEP #1: UNDERSCORE BOOKS. It is difficult to remember everything that happens each day; the names of all the people you meet, the places you have been to or the things you have told or learned. Therefore, the practice of gathering knowledge and keeping it on file for future reference is a worthy one that will pay handsome dividends. Within the chapters of this book are dozens of helpful ideas and suggestions for personal success. Some of them will appeal to you and you will want to make note of them for the future reference. I have always used the underscore method when reading a reference book so that paragraphs of interest can be easily found. Use the underscore method while reading this series. With a coloured pencil, underscore ideas that appeal to you. With specific passages underscored you will be able to quickly get to the 'meat' of each chapter. Re-read "How To Succeed" many times so that the principles 'sink-in' and with application, take hold of your life in an affirmative way.

**ACTION STEP #2: BE A NOTE-TAKER. Obtain a notebook and jot down ideas that appeal to you. You may learn of a particular success technique from a new acquaintance or from a lecture you have attended. Write them in your book for future reference. Always keep your notebook handy for quick insertion of appealing success ideas.

**ACTION STEP #3: BE A 3 x 5 CARD-CARRIER. Get a stack of cards, 3 inches by 5 inches, and write or type appealing ideas on them. Perhaps it might be a 'thought of the day' you've copied from a calendar or the newspaper. Perhaps it's something you've heard on the radio. If it has a 'message' that appeals to you, copy it and place it in your success file. Carry a different card with you each day and refer to the message on it whenever you get a free moment.

**ACTION STEP #4: BUILD A SUCCESS SCRAPBOOK. Clip articles of interest that pertain to success from newspaper and magazines. Get into the habit of clipping and filing bits of useful information. Place them in a loose leaf binder. Make it your personal success scrapbook of selected thoughts, ideas and success stories about other people. Your reference book on success will serve you well as you chart the course of your life.

**CALL UPON GREAT MINDS TO HELP YOU SUCCEED. Down through the years great men have expressed their ideas and feelings and shared their wisdom and knowledge with mankind via the written word. It is said: books are people. Books present the opportunity of meeting great minds of the past and present. Through a carefully planned program of reading, one is able to appreciate the wisdom of Shakespeare, the reasoning of Plato, the philosophy of Socrates, the compassion of Lincoln and the ideas of Freud on human behavior. Good books help you to grow intellectually. They help you to form your own ideas, thoughts and feelings about yourself, things and others. Good books help you to succeed. They are precious tools to the man who wants to get ahead. Good books are the cheapest form of education I know. Read everything you can afford to buy. If your budget restricts the purchase of too many good books, borrow them. Get into the habit of spending at least thirty minutes of reading each day. Start with newspaper and magazines. Progress to a book that provokes thought, inspires or gives you a greater understanding of life. Finish off your reading by studying at least one verse from the Bible. In addition to teaching the things of life you ought to know and understand, the Bible acts as an excellent mental tranquilizer when negative conditions are affecting your life.

**A PERSONAL LIBRARY IS THE BEST INVESTMENT. Build a personal library of books. Surround yourself with good books. They are the wisest investment your 'self-corporation' can make. Take pride in your library; add to it as often as you can afford. Don't let your books gather dust; read them, underscore the ideas that appeal to you and take notes. Begin immediately to build your library and to commence a daily reading program. If unable to purchase books, make good use of your local library. Start reading books that interest you; light reading at first, then move to the classics when you feel you are ready. A minute spent gaining knowledge is a minute spent wisely and productively.

**THE KEY TO BECOMING A SELF POWER. You are born with a free will. You have the privilege of deciding for yourself which turn of the road to take. The final decision rests within the confines of your own mind as to whether you succeed or fail; no other person can succeed for you - it's a solo act. When you attempt to ride to success on someone else's ideas and efforts, you seldom get to choose the destination. The key to becoming a self power is to know and believe that you have the ability to guide your life in the direction you desire; that you create and mould your own destiny by governing your thoughts. The riches of life are all around you for the taking if you will but use your creative mechanism - conscious and subconscious mind - to harvest them. Everyone desires a life of health, happiness and prosperity, yet few succeed in experiencing those affirmative states because of false beliefs and the misuse of their thinking powers.
