Are Decentralized Exchanges (including Steemit ) really safe? Ether Delta hacked and many ETH and Tokens Stolen:

in #busy7 years ago (edited)

A top cryptocurrency exchange EtherDelta got hacked on Wednesday, with many users sending their tokens (unknowingly ) to the hacker instead of to ether delta.
At least 308 ETH ($266,789) were stolen, as well as a large number of tokens potentially worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

EtherDelta is a decentralized exchange which lists almost all Ethereum-based tokens.
The platform is currently not the best however it does have a lot of volumes and also an important first step for coin and token owners after initial ICO.
According to their Twitter message : > 1/2 IMPORTANT we have reason to believe that there had been malicious attacks that temporarily gained access to @etherdelta DNS server. We are investigating this issue right now - in the meantime please DONOT use the current site.
And BE AWARE The imposer's app has no CHAT button on the navigation bar nor the offical Twitter Feed on the bottom right. It is also populated with a fake order book. .

Few weeks ago, we had the issue of ddos attack on steemit leading to in activities and frustrating many users around the world. This shows that nothing is 100% safe and we must take our own safety in our hands.

Ethereum lyte (Elyte ) for short is the next best thing after steem and so many steemians are already buying in.
Offering just 1m tokens as total supply with lower circulation supply, top visible team, excellent and innovative product, deflationary nature, early adopters of Elyte are already smiling as they see bright future in their investments as prices has shot up over 600% since inception just 3 weeks ago even as they are yet to be on exchange. A DNS attack on steemit would suck if you logged in and had a large liquid steem balance.., but savings should be saved in time, and of course steem power.

Yes, hence the need to use those options...good point

Thanks bot

Things like this and like NiceHash getting hacked really worries me about the Crypto World other than that I love it! God Bless.

Good point, a big reason to worry..thanks for your comment

Of coruse they're safe! You can also run your own copy of Etherdelta on your machine and it's really simple https://steemit.com/security/@gabaman/how-to-run-your-own-local-copy-of-etherdelta-on-osx

Good point, thanks for your comment

You're welcome!

It is still safer than centralized exchanges.

Good point, centralised exchanges do have their own limitations

These things never cease dear friend, many thanks for the warning and information
I wish you a great day dear friend @ charles1

welcome my friend, hope you are safe

I always feel safer with 2FA using Google auth. Wish steemit will look into 2FA and etherdta will improve security and speed of transactions
