This is what the cold war brings, sadness, poverty and dictatorship. After being on steemit for almost 11 months, I woke up today to see that steemit is not working. First, I thought that steemit is down, but after that I called my internet provider and he said that Russian government has blocked a lot of ip addresses, and steemit's ip is one of them. They are trying to block Telegram because it doesn't allow them to read messages there and the creator Pavel Durov doesn't want to give them all the encrypted keys.
Pavel Durov is the creator of the most visited Europeen social netowork vk.com. He sold the website to Russian government. So they may want also to buy Telegram, but Durov is not like Zuckerberg, he protects privacy. He also supports cryptocurrency world because he's also created Telegram ICO called TON, and that currency presale has raised up to nearly $2 billion. So, he is doing very well.
Anyway, I don't really care about Telegram or ICOs, the only thing I care about is steemit. Why are they blocking it ?! It's just a blogging website. People just write and talk about what they like here. We are free people and we have the right to use any website we want. No one has the right not to let us access any website we want. I understand if they blocked linkedin before, it asked for a lot of information and everybody shares it there. But in steemit the only thing we have is our login and password. It's private. Why someone has to restrict our privacy.
But we are week people, just citizens who don't have that power to make the change. We have just to accept that, no choice we have. Despite this there is always a solution for any problem. You maybe thinking why I am writing if steemit is blocked in Russia. It's just because I use vpn, and I can access any website I want, even linkedin or steemit. So, I think it's really stupid to block a website, because it's internet and anyone can just use vpn and access any website he wants. It's the same in China about google or youtube, those websites are also blocked there, but when you use vpn, you access them just like that.
The most important thing is for them not to forbid to access steemit by law. It will be the reason why I will leave Russia forever and never come back here. I hope this will not happen and if you are reading this from Russia, I just advise you to use any vpn service like ''Hide my ip'', the one I am using right now, and I chose Netherlands ip for that.
Governments think that they will control people in everything, but that will never happen. Because we are people and we have our own will and minds that are controlled only by ourselves. I hope I will not be arrested after writing this, and I will be alive, but the truth has to be written, whatever happens. I usually don't write about politics, but blocking steemit made me very mad.

Yes, because they couldn't block it, it's so hard to do for them, Pavel is a very good developer and it's hard to beat him. ☺
Also he technically couldn't give keys from secret chats. Each chat has its own key and nobody can get it.
I hope they will undertand that somehow and stop blocking websites for no reason, it's really stupid thing to do.
