Abdul Fattah Said Hussein Khalil as-Sisi (Arab: عبد الفتاح سعيد حسين خليل السيسي, 'Abd al-Fattāḥ Sa'īd Ḥusayn Khalīl al-Sīsī, IPA: [ʕæbdel.fættæːħ sæʕiːd ħeseːn xæliːl essiːsi]), (born November 19 1954, age 63 years) is the current President of Egypt. He was previously an Egyptian military commander who was Commander of the Egyptian Armed Forces, as well as the Minister of Defense, from 12 August 2012 to 26 March 2014. As head of the armed forces, he played a leading role in overthrowing President Mohammed Mursi in the 2013 Egypt coup, which was democratically elected. As-Sisi then appointed himself as First Deputy Prime Minister, concurrently serving as Minister of Defense. As-Sisi confirmed on March 26, 2014 that he will run for president in the 2014 presidential election.
