with steemit they had the idea that a bare bones UX wouldn't be an issue... because there is a potential to earn money... well.. they were WRONG..
It is an issue which steemit inc has put off for too long. This "golden" fomo opportunity of SMT is holding Steemit back... as long as discoverability is an issue, and there are no communities, there isn't so much incentive for users to create unless they are earning.
Once the earning is not a problem, the tend seems to be "How do I milk these rewards"...
second to a quality user experience.imo if @dan wants to make a real competitor to steemit, then rewards will have to come
