X-Men - The Last Stand is a very frustrating movie.

in #busy6 years ago

I haven't seen any of the X-Men movies in a long time.

The first movie came out in the year 2000. There were 11 movies total.

X-Men: The Last Stand is not the last of these movies. This movie came out in 2006, but it is the last X-Men movie that I bothered watching.

Why? Well to be perfectly honest it kind of pissed me off.

There were so many things in X-Men - The Last Stand which are just wrong that I found myself incredibly frustrated by the end of the movie. How could Marvel not know the story of their own comics?

Now let me tell you that I'm not a big comic guy. I did have a few friends growing up that were into comic books though, and I have read a few of the X-Men Comics like most little boys probably have.

All little boys should read a few comics now and then.

Having said that, I actually was a huge fan of the X-Men cartoon.

X-Men and Transformers were two staples that kept me going in a very difficult world when I was a child.

I must admit that I don't remember much about the X-Men movies that came out in the year 2000 and beyond, but I do remember almost every detail of that X-Men cartoon. I absolutely adore it, and if I could find a Blu-ray edition of it I would certainly buy and watch it even now.

So let's get started on what's wrong with X-Men - The Last Stand. First of all, let me tell you that this is a fine action movie. There is plenty of action here, and plenty of good acting.... especially by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

It almost makes you wonder what Patrick Stewart would have been like if he was also in The Lord of the Rings.

How does X-Men - The Last Stand differ from the comic and cartoon?

Let's start with the obvious issue of Juggernaut.

Juggernaut.

Cain Marko. Stepbrother of Professor X who finds a Magic Crystal which essentially grants him the power of invincibility as long as he wears a giant helmet.

Not a mutant.

In the movie there is a boy that takes away mutant Powers when you get close to him. Juggernaut is defeated because he does not know that when he gets close to the boy his powers will be taken away.

Of course they should not have been taken away at all because he does not actually have any Mutant Powers because he's not a mutant.

Pyro.

First of all, see that thing on his back? It's a gas tank filled with fuel. He needs that in order to launch the fire. Pyro's power is that he can control fire.

Sparks ignite the fuel which is in the lines that are attached from the tank to his hands that he can then launch out and attack people with.

Pyro can control flame but he is not capable of generating that flame on his own.

In this movie he is a flame throwing maniac that is every bit the equal to Iceman. In fact, it looks like he's going to beat Iceman's ass quite a few times.

The truth is that he wouldn't be able to come close to fighting Iceman who is one of the strongest X-Men out there.

Iceman.

I don't remember much about Iceman from the comics, but I've seen him in the cartoon lots of times.
Iceman is one of the strongest characters out there.

This is a man that can become made of ice. He can use ice to fly through the air. He can create buildings and an innumerable amount of objects out of ice.

Iceman is practically indestructible assuming that he is conscious due to all the different things that he can do with ice.

Iceman is either superior or equal to almost any comic book character out there. In the movie he can shoot little streams of ice, and freeze over a lake.

Woohoo.

Of first the worst offender wasn't any of the above listed items.

It has to do with one of the plots of the movie involving the character called Phoenix which is an incarnation of Jean Grey.

Who is Phoenix?

Jean Grey is in a shuttlecraft about to die from radiation. She calls out to the forces in the universe to help her using her telepathic abilities.

The cosmic forces of the universe hear her and grant her wish. She is essentially cloned and thereby causes the birth of the Phoenix.... a cosmic entity created by the universe in order to fulfill her wish.

Phoenix is a good entity that is helpful and very powerful.

Eventually the Phoenix becomes the Dark Phoenix when she is overwhelmed by her power and has to be defeated by the original Jean Grey personality that is sharing the same consciousness.

This movie completely disregards the Phoenix story and simply creates its own story to replace it.

In this movie Phoenix was always a part of Jean Grey's personality that was locked away because it was too powerful. Jean Grey as a level 5 mutant which is higher than any other level, and therefore too powerful.... so Professor X decided to lock away part of her powers because it would overwhelm her.

That's simply not what happened. All of the above items make it so frustrating for me that I haven't even bothered to watch another X-Men movie.

I can tell you right now though the X-Men - The Last Stand is not canon.

As a childhood fan of the cartoon I have to say.... that it really bothers me.

Sort:

That's why I do not see any updated version of the movie, they are always incongruent with what I grew up or remember and I become very critical.
There are movies that are better as a memory of childhood.
