I'm afraid though, that 1) no competition means a slowdown in innovating and 2) a really good competitor can crush Steem very easily.
Admittedly, Steem gave a lot to the world by showing the strength and weaknesses of dPoS, but it's not perfect - if someone can make something better, that would be detrimental to Steem.
It has some negative aspects, mostly on business and community management, that's going to hurt very, very much in the future

It does? Where did you get that? Oh I know, you were conditioned to believe it.
Based upon what you wrote, you dont think Steem as competition at the moment. Yet, have you seen the innovation that took place on here this year? That kind of negates the fallacy that people are conditioned to believe that without competition, that innovation will slowdown.
In the scarcity world, the reason that exists is because the larger entities become monopolies and thwart any innovation.
As for the rest, I guess we will have to disagree.
No, that quite literally one of the major drawbacks of real-life monopoly. Lol even you agree. SMTs come, so did RCs, sure, but they were promised long ago.
Also AFAIK Steem isn't full open-source, you can't just start your own blockchain network based on a modified version of the Steem code, unless Steemit Inc approves, like in case of Golos.
I say it because if Steem was truly open-source, monopoly may not be such a big issue when it comes to innovations (Linux is a great example). This way, though, it can indeed become an unhealthy monopoly.
