California - A judge in Los Angeles, United States, on Thursday, March 29, 2018 ordered coffee companies to comply with the laws of the state of California. They were ordered to put cancer warning labels on all their coffee products.

It all started with a nonprofit group called the Institute for Education and Research on Dangerous Materials suing famous coffee makers and retailers like Starbucks, Dunkin 'Donuts, and McDonald's.

They say the company does not warn consumers that roasting coffee naturally produces a carcinogen called acrylamide.

In the first part of a three-stage court, Elihu Berle High Court Judge ruled, coffee companies failed to prove their claim that there was no significant risk of acrylamide.

In Thursday's decision after the second phase, Judge Berle said that the companies failed to show coffee is a healthy drink.

"The accused have failed to meet their burden of proof with convincing evidence that coffee consumption benefits human health," he wrote, as quoted from VOA Indonesia, Saturday (31/3/2018).

The next third phase will decide the penalty to be paid by the coffee companies. However, officials of these companies have not yet responded to the judge's verdict.

What is Acrylamide?

Acrylamide is naturally formed when foods such as coffee, hot grain cereal and potatoes are cooked or fried.

Most medical studies show, there is no increased risk of cancer from eating these foods. Some recent research shows drinking coffee is good for health.

Not sure wether it is just California or all of the USA, but I was kind of surprised to find a sign in my hotel during my first visit that said there were elements in this hotel that could harm my health.

So it is unhealthy, not sure in what way because the sign doesn't clarfiy that, but it is still open? How unhealthy is that?

These messages are confusing.

according to research from a group of people who say acrylamide substances are produced when baking coffee beans that make it unhealthy for the human body ...
btw thanks for ur comments
