My current immediate project

in #busy7 years ago

My current project involves getting myself the $92 USD I need, purchase web hosting (VPS) and domain name for the project and migrate my current project from my localhost to the external host and set it up accordingly, including with SSL.

From there I'll have a WordPress frontend that can be customized and tailored by each individual user and post to Steemit as well as view Steemit posts/feed from their WordPress host. To my understanding SteemPress will function accordingly in a multisite installation allowing each individual user/blog to input their own details to post to steemit accordingly. Will see how things go.

Integrate BuddyPress and BBPress for intercommunication and sharing among the members of the community to aid in sharing information and collaboration. Uploading content via means of BuddyPress and BBPress will not result using bandwidth nor will clicking "like" on someone's post on the platform result in an upvote on Steemit, you'd need to visit the individual blog for that. The Social Network approach is aimed at being useful for community, resource sharing, and collaborative research and assistance.

Not sure exactly how well it'll be received, but I'll at least have the CryptoDeaf project to a far, far better host that I've had access to so far.

And no, I'm not asking for donations or upvotes or anything like that. Merely putting down my thoughts onto Steemit and detailing what's working on in my brain at the moment.

Interesting. If you can add a relevant post / author discovery module, you’d have a competitive advantage over others.

As far as I know, there isn’t any interface that provides that.

Which hosting company are you going to use? A commercial one?

I switched to siteground from godaddy a six months or so ago and so far I’m happy with them.

Yes I'm going for commercial. Gamehost.online specifically because I can purchase with SBD. The connection to Steemit is solely through a WordPress plugin called SteemPress for posting, author discovery would only function accordingly provided the author is also utilizing my platform for blogging and off steemit discussions. Further integration is planned such as Steemit Comments for blog posts.

This is a rather tricky project to say the least and I don't expect it to really take off.

yeah...
well I din't understand all that
(I'm not a geek)
BUT
from what I gather SMT's and Steem Communities will shortly do much the same thing.
for free

SO
you might check into it further before you spend a lot of time, effort, and money.
that you don't need to.

All the steemit frontends you use coincidentally are also located on a centralized server. ;) It's a misconception that it's entirely decentralized. The backend can be accessed outside and call the data up and post data to it. Steemit.com, Busy.org, d.tube, dlive, dmania, etc all are frontends that cost money for someone.

I'm also tempted to just leave the project on my local machine rather than posting it up to the web, that's a lot of cheddar to put forth to hosting.

does it HAVE to be that way?
why not make an APP for that?.

It's possible to develop a desktop application that interacts with the backend accordingly, but doing so would also require compiling for every OS requirement. 32bit and 64bit Windows. Linux. OS X. Then you'd also need to make apps for Android, iOS and Windows Phone, PalmOS.

Overall it's just a massive headache. Far simpler with far less overhead just to have a centralized script as a website people can hit up instead. Far more cost effective.

It sounds like your use case is similar to something I'm working on.

While I like the STEEMPRESS plugin, it seems geared for a bit of a different posting workflow. I've forked it and have made some modifications to fit better with what I'm doing.

You can find my fork at http://wordpress.org/plugins/another-steempress - it just might be a better fit for your use case. If you have thoughts or suggestions, I'd be happy to think about them.

Also, because I sincerely appreciate the work done by the Steempress team, posts made through AnotherSteempress also send rewards to the Steempress project.

Anyway - best of luck to you!

Coincidentally I did see your plugin, I just wasn't sure what was different between yours and the original. My current project goals have been accomplished and is currently up, just haven't set it out as public yet since I'm still dicking with things until I'm satisfied with it.

SBD Press If you'd like to personally check it out. I'm also trying to figure out what plugins would best fit for general use for the system as well, so if you have any recommendations, I'm all ears. I also don't skim off any SBD earnings for the use of the site.

Overall, the project is most ways off the ground, just busy dicking with things still. If you catch my drift.
