In the Pirganj upazila of Rangpur, an object like an armored van was found beneath the river.
Bangladesh has found objects like an armored van under the river under Piratganj upazila of Rangpur. On Friday, the boat was found during the withdrawal of sandwiches near the Kanchadhoh ghat.
Pirganj Assistant Land Commissioner Nasheed Kaisar Riyadh, District Chairman Enamul Hadeet, Project Implementation Officer Mizanur Rahman, Tukuria UP Chairman Atiur Rahman, Pirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harun Or Rashid and local journalists were present on the spot.
Pirganj Police Station Officer-in-charge Rezaul Karim said that it is not known whether it is a tank until it is recovered. He said, if it is also a tank, then there is no conception about how tight it is.
However, Pirganj upazila liberation war commander Abdus Sattar and other elders in the area said that this was the tank used by Indian Allied forces in 1971.
They said that during the war of liberation in December 1971, a fleet of 9 tanks of Indian Allied forces was entering Pirganj from Birampur upazila of Dinajpur with Hilli land port. During crossing the Karatoa river, a tank was trapped in the sand of the Tapuria union, due to strong currents and squash.
On Friday, the local authorities visited the site after receiving information about the similar nature of the tank.
After not being able to take it for three days at the time, members of the Allied forces entered Pirganj after declaring the tank to be abandoned. Although the Pirganj invaders were free on December 6, locals said no further efforts were made to rescue the tank.
However, after the Indian army failed to recover the tank, it was known that the parts of the vehicle were taken away.
Detective agency DGFI and a team of the army visited the site when the object was found on Friday. They will soon take all kinds of rescue measures from the river.
If it is really a war tanks, it will be arranged for public display, they said.
