a great contest this week: B&W Bridges!@daveks is running
As it turns out, I have a few bridges in black and white! Here are my trio of entries (I hope it's okay to put them in on post). Three famous waterfalls that feature bridges:
1. Multnomah Falls, Oregon
In the Columbia Gorge - this waterfall needs no introduction to those who have visited the Pacific Northwest; it is the most iconic among a whole host of beautiful falls in this part of Oregon, and while it is also the most visited and crowded, that's no reason to pass it by. I photographed this with the Pentax K-5 and a Sigma 17-70mm lens.
2. Seljalandsfoss, Iceland
One of my favourite waterfalls in the world. You can walk behind Seljalandsfoss and feel the raw power of the water through the rocks. Even when you're standing a distance away this waterfall is scary when you're alone in the dark. I was lucky to get here at the beginning of winter on a cold and wet night, when a thick layer of snow and ice covered everything. Photographed with the Pentax K-5 and a Sigma 10-20mm lens.
3. Watkins Glen, New York
The waterfalls at Watkins Glen are truly beautiful, in the sort of fairy tale fantasy way that we dream about but never expect to encounter in real life. We compare a lot of places to the valley of Rivendell in Tolkien's Middle-earth, but when you visit on a rainy day you will feel that Watkins Glen truly belongs more to that world than to our own. A candid shot, not posed, taken with a Nikon D750 and Nikkor 24-120mm lens.
Thank you again to @daveks for hosting this contest, and to @victorbz for judging this round!
"Father was next to me, just steady and quiet. The sound of the pouring rain made the moment like eternal and timeless at the same time.
As expected in the 50's communication parents to kids was not too in vogue back then. I had to stay quiet, trying to figure out what father was thinking...
Until now I hope mother would've been there to comfort me as she always used to do."
Superb! My favorite is the second one, but each has its own charm. :)
Thank you! What do you think makes you like the second one more? :)
Probably the contrast? Also, I love reflections, and this one really stands out..
The third one is my second favorite but an entirely different atmosphere. #2 is striking, majestic, bold, powerful, contemporary. #3 is charming, romantic, artsy, timeless, classic.
Well put! It's good to be able to put photo feelings into words like that! :)
And thank you!!
Fantastic images. There's gotta be a winner here.
We'll see, @wllmdnnd, thank you! Either way I had fun picking these out and processing a couple in black and white. :)
One of the most unique shots of Multnomah that I've seen. Nice one man.
Hey thank you, @willchristiansen! This was before the bridge was damaged - do you know if they've fixed it and if it still looks the same?
Wow - if one of these isn't featured then i'll eat my hat (and i'll be needing it this week 'cos its -15c outside now...)
I hope you checked to make sure it's digestible before you make bets like that - it's bad enough to freeze without having to deal with a stomach ache at the same time!
Very cool shot and goodluck with the contest :)
Thanks, @tristanoliff! :D
Great set!! Good luck!
Thank you! :)
Holy moly, man. Jaw on the floor, these black and whites are fantastic!! The Watkins Glen photo looks like a painting and has such a wonderful atmosphere to it. It feels like you’re pulled back in time to the turn of the 20th century
Honestly, it felt like I had gone back in time when I was there and that scene happened in front of me!!! Thank you, Nate! :)
