You Can't Have Your Cake And Eat It Too.....Except Here In Germany !!

in #cake7 years ago

I used to work in a famous “ Confiserie - Conditorei - Patisserie ” in Basel Switzerland....they were famous for their chocolates, pastries and cakes...even having boasted of sending parcels regularly to the queen of England!

Himbeer Sahne (Rasperry Cream ) - Café Am Markt - Calw

Are You a Cake-Snob Too?

During the year that I worked there, I came to appreciate good patisserie and to be able to distinguish between quality and “schluck”... Well, even though that was a long time ago, I'm afraid I had become a bit of a cake -snob....flinging around my judgmental critiques faster that you can lick the chocolate off of an electric mixer beater. Even though I've always boasted of the "Swiss Top-Notch" quality in the baking field, I have now come to realize and have had to admit, that the Germans do, in fact, take the cake in this culinary artistry ...( pun intended ! )

Here are some of the delicacies that we were privileged to sample during our recent Black-Forest Steemcation:

Our Decadent 5 Day-Cake-A-Thon:

Black Forest (very boozy!!)  - Café Am Markt - Calw

Apple Streussel - Lamm Hotel - Baiersbronn

Apple Studel - Lindau

Bienenstich  (Bee Sting) - Café Staufen - Staufen

Badischer Apple Cake - Café Grether - Badenweiler

Tiramisù Cake - Conditorei Capri - Baden Baden

Plum Streussel - Conditorei Capri - Baden Baden

Nougat Caramel - Conditorei Capri - Baden Baden

Rasberry Cake - Café Am Markt - Calw

Our Cake-A-Thon experience was heavenly to say the least.....I would highly recommend such an naughty adventure.

This beautiful art-form/ food-science/ culinary creation ...call it what you may, involves a lot of imagination, hard work and precision, but somehow the Germans manage to make it all seem like a piece of cake....( pun intended!

Those cakes looks juicy, moist, and I'm sure they're delicious, but I have so many fillings now I'm afraid of going near anything this sweet. Well.....maybe I'll make an exception for that Tiramisù Cake.

Lella, you have a new follower. Great pics.

Yeah...I had the same problem (with my teeth..)...but some things are too hard to resist...Thanks for following

In my country, Romania, the first cake is called Foret Noire and the second is apple tart with shredded dough

I think that's what Streussel means....

Hmmm, I kind of hungry right now. I'm thinking where I can find a good piece of cake :D! Nice and funny!

Yummy! I prefer Apfelstrudel - much fruit, less sugar ....

Wow what beautiful food!!
Following you for more

I would almost kill for bienenstich! You can't get it anywhere here; at least not a good piece. And, to make the plum cakes my mother made, you need the right plums. Sadly, even those are getting harder to find anywhere except in seasonal markets. Thanks for highlighting German cakes. Too bad I found this article too late to make a worthwhile upvote or resteem it.

Yeah...Bienenstich...to taste it is to love it, eh?...
