The Government of Canada was phasing out the penny because of its rising production costs relative to its face value.

I personally love having the penny removed, in my opinion it's one of the best currency things. If you carry cash, everything is either in a 5 or a 0 rounded up or down and it's perfect.

I used to hate having pennys in my pocket, or lookin to try and get that exact $8.57 now it's exact almost all the time

If prices stayed at some number ending in 0 or even 5, that's one thing. Sadly, there are things like sales taxes or value added taxes imposed on most goods and services. These taxes cause final prices to end up with crooked numbers that only pennies, pence, or cents can remedy.

I understand the need to move away from 0.01 coins, but they will be needed as long as taxes exist. Either that, or all money becomes digital, and decentalized currency won't be allowed to exist then.

I haven't missed the penny one bit. I'm a hardcore debit-er.

they will never phase out the penny
