One night, Jakie woke up past her bedtime, she smelled something funny in the air, so she walked down the hall to her parents' beedroom.
Instead of scolding the daughter (Jakie) for getting out of bed past her bedtime and accidentally interrupting their little party, the mother promises she will explain everything the next day.
The next day involves visiting the local marijuana farmer to learn about the plant, visiting a a doctor to learn about how cannabis is used as medicine, and running into a group of African-American men smoking outside while they are approached by cops.
Surprisingly, the cops let the men go without a ticket and explains to Jackie why the weed is illegal and what is being done to change the laws.
It's Just a Plant
It's Just a Plant is a children’s book about cannabis, written, illustrated and published by Ricardo Cortes. It is planned for parents who want to educate their children about #Marijuana.
The book's pro-marijuana legitimation message has drawn widespread attention from critics and therefore the media since its publication in January 2005.
The Author Ricardo wrote this book after seeing how it affects kids and their families.
Cortes Stated:
I just wanted kids to have another channel of conversation about marijuana other than just what they’re learning in school.
The Author & The Children's Story of Marijuana
Ricardo Cortes (Born 1973) is an illustrator, artist and author. Who illustrated Go the F**k to Sleep, Adam Mansbach's Bedtime and I Don't Want To Blow You Up!
It's Just a Plant!
He wrote and illustrated "It’s Just a Plant" because:
He’s been interested in drug policy for a long time, and he believes educators and law enforcement take the wrong approach to drug policy education.
He also believes that every parent should be able to have a talk with their kids about drug policy and the effect it has on society.
Children are involved as,
Their parents are arrested, their parents are — families are split apart, sometimes because of drug laws, so I thought it was really important that kids were involved in that conversation in a way that they could easily comprehend.
It’s Just a Plant may not be every parent’s choice for bedtime reading, but it makes a point that Pot is Something That Millions of People Use Everyday and that children will become aware of eventually from a less reliable source.
I believe the book was really well written and loved the raw illustrations, the reason why I applaud the author for his cutting edge and progressive ways as a children’s author.
