Today a local representatives from LARA and Metrc offered an educational session at a local university. I went with my processing partner to learn more about the application process and about the Metrc tracking system.
The application process seems pretty straight forward and can be completed through an online portal. They are also accepting good old fashioned paper applications. I was really hoping for little bit more on the way the regulations are going but alas it was only a walk through for applying online.
The Metrc part was very informative. I have never used this system, but it is the same system used by Colorado, Oregon, and others that require tracking. The system seems to be user friendly and has csv file upload capabilities. It can also be integrated with some of the LIMs systems out there. The beauty is that Michigan is picking up the tab for the system and Metrc ensures compliance with Michigan. The RF tags will also be paid for by the state and that is nice.
At the end of the session we met with a few of my partner's old friends who are also applying for licenses. They currently hold municiple licenses for grow, process, and dispensary. They are less than 20 min away and would have an extra space to house my lab. The grower would like to introduce me to his investors and help get the lab off the ground early next spring. Super awesome!
Overall the morning went pretty well. Now to finish up that pesky business plan.
