New Survey Finds Major Support For Cannabis In Ireland

in #cannabis8 years ago (edited)

At the moment, Cannabis isn't legalized in Ireland, but policy makers there have indicated their interest to move in that direction. It wasn't that long ago that it was announced that authorities in the country there wanted to press forward with legalization of cannabis for medicinal purposes. And a new survey has found that there is widespread support for legalization with many doctors in the nation.

The Irish College of General Practitioner has also indicated that the country might see legal cannabis for medicinal use within 1 or 2 years.

According to the recent survey, it's estimated that at least 60 percent of those asked, agreed that cannabis could offer some medicinal benefits for pain management and more. And almost the same amount of support, about 58.6 percent, was seen when asked if they supported legalization of cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Denying Natural Rights

There is growing support not only in Ireland, but around the world, with people who are tired of seeing a beneficial plant criminalized. Not only can this plant potentially provide medicinal benefits to millions, but it can also be used for a myriad of other purposes. And as it's been suggested many times before, by Supreme Court legal experts and others, denying the right of people to smoke cannabis is denying their natural rights and freedoms.

Governments in many countries around the world spend millions on arresting and prosecuting individuals who are found in possession of this plant. That is a lot of money and a lot of manpower that could be spent on other things and more pressing concerns. The approach to criminalize this plant hasn't worked, because people still quite easily seem to be able to obtain it in the market, so all of that money that has been spent has been seemingly wasted on an endeavor that has failed and continues to fail.

Fruitless Laws

The laws against cannabis have ruined the lives of many people who never caused harm to anyone else or their property. Those unjustified laws have caused a lot of trouble for people, by leaving them with hefty fines, incarceration time, and a criminal record etc. Over a plant.

Society is still operating with an archaic Victorian mindset, rather than embracing the potential economic, medical, and other benefits that this plant might be able to provide. Free people should be exactly that, free to choose what they put inside of their bodies, as long as their choice doesn't hurt anybody else or their property.

The recent survey in Ireland did find that those same doctors did still have some concerns about the effects associated with recreational use of cannabis and about 56 percent said that they didn't support decriminalization of the drug. Perhaps because then they might have fewer patients, after those patients discover that they might be able to find more remedy from a plant than they ever could from a number of pharmaceuticals that doctors have been providing them.

There is currently a medical cannabis bill being crafted in Ireland, the Cannabis for Medicinal Use Bill, and it's already made it to the committee stage. Policy makers there are still waiting on a Health Products Regulatory Authority response before they proceed any further with the process. And there have also been suggestions that the pending bill still needs to undergo a few amendments before it might ever be pushed forward.

To this day, there still has never been a single death attributed to a cannabis overdose.

Those who remain in favor of criminalization, need to let go of their nonsensical commitment to the belief that this plant is a dangerous drug. And hopefully many more will stop wanting to prevent and infringe upon the rights of others, because of their fears and dislikes over the personal preferences of other individuals who are engaging in peaceful acts that don't violate the property of anyone else.

I do hope the Irish decriminalize soon. I hope the rest of the world decriminalizes or just outright legalize cannabis soon.

It about time! I'm surprised that Ireland is so far behind. I guess I always though Ireland would be more along the lines of Amsterdam. Upvoted 😊

Thank yo for sharing this story.

I would have thought Ireland would be at the forefront of this whole cannabis movement. Anyhow, it's a question of time before it all goes viral. They have literally taken away our free will with this one. It's been several decades since cannabis was outlawed and all in the name of what? Control!!! They know the benefits of cannabis and that our own bodies have receptors which are made to absorb CBD. They have been lying to us and are afraid of cannabis because they cannot patent something that comes from nature and they know that this can create and supply every industry out there from clothing, medicine, nutraceuticals paper etc.... Good post. You should check out mine on cannabis as well.

I'm heading over to check your cannabis post, giova - we just grow and make our own medicinal oil for friends and family :)

Wow really. Are you based out of Ireland

So the Green Isle is finally gonna go fully green?

Niiiiiiice.

Nice post

The medicinal use only is being pushed by the pharmaceutical-medical industry. Hemp is already legal, so sure they can have their fun with THC I guess if it stops this madness of destroying lives through enforcement violence.

I think that in Ireland it is not legalized! The Irish Vikings! Not when you are not ill!Healthy like bulls

Medical use of cannabis should be allowed ASAP, feels like the biggest reason it has not happened yet is that big pharma wants to sell their own chemical coctails, which often don't even work, and are afraid of nature's own medicine being made available to public! Things are moving to right direction however, rightfully so. When it comes to recreational use, I'd say go for it, just apply the same rules alcohol has. I hate a system which encourages pockets of people to lobby against greater good. How to align everyones interest? How to build bridge between the elite and masses or should we just opt out of the system elites have build for us and create something better?

Excellent post dear friend @doitvoluntarily very interesting, it is a real pleasure to visit your blog, present current things of valuable information thank you very much
