Legalization of cannabis worries human resource managers

in #cannabis6 years ago

Half of the companies would not be ready to deal with the legalization of cannabis and its impacts, according to the Order of Certified Human Resources Advisors (CHRP).

"Three months into the legalization of cannabis, all organizations should analyze the potential effects of this legalization on their workplace by assessing risks, including targeting critical positions. They should put in place prevention and intervention measures according to the degree of risk. These measures should be clearly identified in a policy and communicated to all, "said Manon Poirier, Executive Director of the College.

The survey reveals that 74% of certified human resources advisors are professionally concerned with the upcoming legalization and 85% feel that there will indeed be impacts in their workplace.

At the present time, 38% of respondents indicated that drug use by employees is already, a bit or a lot, problematic within their organization.

"Without being able to say it, it is likely, like the American states that have legalized cannabis in recent years, that legalization increases consumption among adults and increases the impact on workplaces. All organizations would be well advised to linger upstream, "added Ms. Poirier.

Adapt to legalization

60% of the organizations surveyed reported having a policy on the issue, exactly the same proportion obtained in October 2017 in the last survey.

"However, the mere presence of a policy is not enough to reduce the risk of accidents, it will also communicate it to all workers and train managers to detect signs that a person is under the influence of cannabis as well as understanding the tools and their flexibility to intervene, "said CHRP.
