July 2018 Canada Legalizes Marijuana for Recreational Use - What You Need To know, The Weed Laws

in #cannabis7 years ago

Canada will legalize marijuana for recreational use in July 2018.
Here's what you need to know.

THE WEED LAWS:

  1. Must be 19 years or older.

  2. 30 grams is the maximum limit you can carry around publicly.

  3. 600 grams is the maximum limit you can have at your home.

  4. You can grow up to 4 plants at home.

  5. Only permitted to use recreational cannabis in a private residence. Not allowed to use in public places, workplaces, or motorized vehicles.

    WHERE TO BUY WEED
LCBO, Liquor Control Board of Ontario, will be controlling the sale and distribution for recreational marijuana. You will be able to buy weed online, or through their 40 stores that open in July 2018. Currently, there is speculation that they will use subsidiary company name of CCBO, Cannabis Control Board of Ontario.

Many consumers are questioning that 40 stores will not be enough. Which the black market can take advantage of. If LCBO is selling a gram for $9 or $10, the black market will always under cut their prices. In recent documentaries on VICE, the black market sellers said they can under cut the price 50% and still be satisfied. Low overhead costs. High demand. Easy win for the black market. When consumers can get a great price and quality weed, they ain't going anywhere else. Eventually, LCBO will open up 150 stores by 2020.

There are also concerns that the black market will no longer have the need to find secret places to grow their marijuana plants. Now, they can sit back and grow at home. The black market will form the perfect system to grow their plants legally. For example, buy an apartment building or rental property. Each unit will be able to grow up to 4 plants each. Just think about the numbers. Just with a building with 12 units, 48 plants. Marijuana plants can grow really big like a small tree and can yield up to 1 pound of weed per plant. 12 units x 4 plants = 48 pounds of weed. Medium quality weed about $3000 - 4000 for 1 pound. That's a total of $144,000 to $192,000 for 48 pounds. Now if the black market under cuts LCBO's weed stores by selling 1 pound for $2000. They still end up with approx $100,000, based on a small rental apartment building. Not bad. Who will check if homes are growing 4 plants? In my opinion, I believe that most people will not follow the limit of 4 plants at home and also they will not follow the law to smoke in public places. Honestly, as I walk through Toronto to get to work, every single block at one point, has that smell of marijuana in the air. Welcome to Canada.

Why is Canada Great?
Free health care, free public education, legalized marijuana, multicultural, equality, minimum wage to be set to $15/hr by Jan 2019. To many to name.

So are you coming to Canada or what?

Sort:

bam, those "rules:" sounds pretty good. Here in The Netherlands you can buy 5 gram tops.. And it isn't even legal yet. The cops can take your weed if they want. They dont do it often tho. And you aren't even allowed to have more then 5 gram at home. New rules in my city. They can even kick you out of your home.. Aint that crazy, for having weed you paid tax for..

peace

5 grams? Well, I suppose that would keep me social if I stuck to those rules. I'd be going out to coffee shops on a pretty regular basis.

5 grams >.< wow that doesn't last long if you smoke all day, everyday.

Canada is seeming more appealing to me all the time. Here in the UK weed is still highly Illegal, our free healthcare system is slowly but surely being ripped apart and sold to private companies, and our minimum wage hasn't gone up substantially in years. Now I see why my work college moved there last year.
Good on you guys for sorting your shit out :)

Canada will have a height restriction on the 4 plants that will be allowed to grow at home. I think the numbers above are quite optimistic. Most of the money going to be made in this industry is by the Gov't, not the licensed producers, black market or home growers.

You are correct. There is a 1 meter height restriction on all home grown plants. The numbers are rather optimistic. I don't think anyone that can afford the 5-10 million price tag on a small rental building would have any desire to grow. Simply collecting rent would pay more than growing. Interesting times in Canada.

This is rad. Treat it with respect Canada. Hopefully the US will follow suit soon enough.

The ban of pot was based on a big fabricated lie anyways..

Ja ha ha...

I strongly agree with the Canadian government. I think this is Welfare and empowerment and income of state coffers.

Good work of the Government of Canada

hopefully be an example for other governments.

That's very nice of them to legalize it to a certain extent, but I wonder who benefits from such tight regulations? Would it not just be more trouble than it's worth to enforce the amount of cannabis one person has on them at any time?

That said, those limits are a lot better than others I've seen. 600 grams at home is more reasonable than laws that allow closer to only 28 grams, which is what some states in the US have set in place.

Also, now I'm really looking forward to visiting Canada someday soon. :)

Hahaha, let's recreate then :)

WOW, a good article and such a nice Canada applause!!

I am not a smoker, but I too plan on growing few plants. I am a gardener and want the challenge to produce some valuable buds.

And all together, I am definitely marijuana supporter, and now a supporter of Budbo, new global cannabis blockchain

I went to Canada earlier this year and they found a small nug I had forgot about in a cup holder and I got arrested at the border, but then they called the local police and they said to just send us homes we started planning a whole other trip towards western U.S. while he finished out paper work and that the end he goes ya know what im letting you guys in today, so we literally went from being arrested two getting welcomed in Canada is amazing

Great story, welcome to Canada! Life is good here if both husband and wife are working (Dual income).

The legal age is dependant on province, not federally appointed. Here in Alberta the age is 18. I honestly think that the black market will suffer. I buy RX now online and prices are currently cheaper than i used to buy from black market. All privinces decide on distribution themselves. LCBO is Ontarios way but not necessarily going to be the same in all the provinces. There is going to be a lot of growing and rework done before all are set in stone. I am really excited fir this though. Also, dont hold your breath for July legalization. Trudeau has said no to that already. I am guessing Oct before legal.....

Wow, those rules are quite liberating. Good to see healthy progress is being made.

Congradulations Canadians, I beleive I heard from a canadian firend that it was legal to grow a single plant like 6-7 years ago.
