CBD Tolerance

When it comes to tolerance with CBD, there are two main questions. How can I know my CBD tolerance? And can my CBD tolerance increase over time?

We’ll take these questions one at a time, but first, let’s take a look at exactly what CBD is so we have a basis to work from.

What is CBD?

Many people assume a CBD tolerance is built up over time, this is often due to comparing CBD to THC, but this is not a logical way to consider CBD tolerance.

While THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) are both taken from the cannabis plant, THC is a psychoactive molecule found mainly in marijuana plants, while CBD is a non-psychoactive molecule taken primarily from industrial hemp plants.

While a tolerance to THC can certainly be built up over time (so we’ve heard…) research into CBD has suggested tolerance may not work in the same way.

How to Know Your CBD Tolerance

Before we get into whether a tolerance to CBD can be built up over time, let’s first examine how to know your individual CBD tolerance levels.

Everybody’s body is different, so your response to CBD is not likely to be the same as the next person’s. It is, therefore, important for your journey to be your own when it comes to working out what strength of CBD is right for you and your body.

We highly recommend starting low and building up. Begin with a low strength CBD product, such as these Olive Drops.

Whatever you choose, ensure it has no more than 5% content, you could even drop as low as 1% if you want to be really safe.

If you feel like you can go higher than that, then start to move up slowly, and when you get to the right point for you, stop.

There is no need to test yourself, there is no pride to be gained in handling a higher strength CBD than somebody else can.

Once you’ve found the right CBD product for you, stick with it.

That brings us to the next question, if you stay with the same product, will you build up a tolerance and need a stronger dosage down the line?

Can CBD Tolerance Build Up Over Time?

While you may assume that a tolerance to CBD may be built up over time, research has suggested this is, in fact, not the case.

The outcome of the research (if the link above feels like a bit of a slog) is that a tolerance did not develop over time in human studies of CBD effects.

There is anecdotal evidence to the contrary, with some regular CBD customers saying that they felt like they built up a tolerance, while others say the same dosage was fine for them over a prolonged period.

Anecdotal evidence is a weird one, it may be the case that people assumed that a tolerance would build up, and that led them to assume that one had.

Whichever way is true, the only thing that is important to remember is your body is your own, and however you respond is the right way for you.

If you feel like you have built up a tolerance over time, then maybe you have, and maybe it’s worth stepping up to a stronger strength.

Other Reasons for CBD Losing Potency

Before you up your dose, however, it’s worth considering whether there’s another reason that the CBD you are using may be losing its potency.

Firstly, check where you have bought your products from. There is limited regulation on CBD products at the moment, so some less than trustworthy suppliers may be delivering less than quality products.

These may involve no CBD at all, or contain some other product that is not specified. Either way, this can have an effect on the potency of the product, obviously.

It is sensible to always ensure that you are buying your CBD products from trustworthy sources, trustworthy, charming, linguistically talented sources… (wink wink).

If you have bought products from us and you are concerned that they are losing their potency, do not hesitate to get in touch, we will be happy to help you in any way we can.

So, in conclusion, the answer to the question “can you build up a tolerance to CBD”, the answer is probably not, but we cannot be fully sure yet.

The research into tolerance, as into many other parts of CBD, is ongoing, and as soon as any news is released, we shall be sure to let you know immediately.
