In Estonia, a small town has selected an excellent flag, by popular vote.
The district of Kanepi, created in a re-organization of Estonian districts, is named after the Estonian word for Cannabis - Kanep. 12,000 voters supported the Cannabis flag, out of 15,000 total votes. Mayor Andrus Seeme said he will respect the wishes of the people and use the new symbol as representation for their district. Although the drug marijuana remains illegal in Estonia, hemp has a long history of use in eastern Europe and the Cannabis leaf features in symbolism as well.
