To start off this new week, we'll look back at the results of the Bonhams Amelia Island sale which took place on March 3 in Florida. The amount of the sales was $US 14,164,630 for the car sale alone, as there were also many motorcycles (more than 40).
1954 Austin Healey 100S Prototype Recreation
I put this superb recreation of the famous NOJ 391 using many NOS parts. Because this car is calling for summer to be able to drive on sunny roads. And if thanks to this, the temperatures can rise on Montreal to melt the snow, it would be just perfect. Because as any good Quebecer would say "Ost... je suis tanné de cette neige". 😀
However, this car didn't find a buyer with an estimate price of $US 250,000. The NOJ 391 is one of the 4 Special Test Cars produced by Geoff Healey in 1953 to demonstrate all the Austin-Healey know-how. This model did so with great success with best in class at the 1954 Sebring 12 Hour, ran in the Mille Miglia in 1953 and 1954... Maybe too expensive for a recreation made in the 90's. But so beautiful. More info on bonhams.com
As I was late to present the sale Bonhams Amelia Island, I could speak only about 2 cars, here is their final selling price:

1952 Allard J2X | 1974 Porsche 914 2.0
Estimated : $US 400,000 | Estimated : $US 60,000
Unsold | Sold for $US 44,800 |
As usual, we'll look at the top 3 best sellers and for once no Ferrari. Strange 😀
1955 Porsche 550 Spyder
Owned by James Dean (Little Bastard), Ralph Laurens... the Porsche 550 is a legendary car produced between 1953 and 1956 as the Porsche's first purpose-built race car. This was a huge success with especially the victory at Le Mans in 1955 and first place overall in 1956 at Targa Florio. It was nicknamed the Giant-Killer because it defeated all the other race cars of higher class designation.
I like this old picture
This model (chassis n° 550-0036) with a coachwork penned by Wendler (car body manufacturers founded in 1840) was purchased new by German driver Theo Helfrich, who entered it in numerous European races before taking it to the US to race with its new owner in the SCCA series. Thanks to this rich pedigree, the car was sold for $US 4,185,000.
💵 Final Price : $US 4,185,000 (ℹ️ : Lot 250)
1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Victoria
On the second step of the podium, the other car sold for more than 1 million dollars, a superb Duesenberg Model J with coachwork by Rollston (American coachbuilder producing luxury bodies in the 30's), beautifuly restored a few years ago. As I don't know much about cars from the interwar period, so I let you see the description of the lot on Bonhams.
💵 Final Price : $US 1,066,500 (ℹ️ : Lot 255)
1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Coupé
The roadster Jaguar XK120 was presented at London Motor Show in 1948. The car was highly successful in racing and rallying. This example is unique as it was imported to New-York by the only one Max Hoffman, the only model with a coackwork penned by Pininfarina. Just to see the difference, here a photo of the regular model :
1951 Jaguar XK 120 sold for $US 96,250 in 2018 through RM Sotheby's. We also notice the difference in price 😀
Beautiful lines and the interior is also stunning with this leather upholstery. It deserves its award winner in 2017 during Pebble Beach concours.
💵 Final Price : $US 940,000 (ℹ️ : Lot 241)
Which car would you have bought ? I like the little Porsche 914 2.0 I featured in my previous post. And it was sold for much less than the estimated price @pfunk was right that it was too expensive.

I like the Porsche 550 best overall. Design is so beautiful still looks modern 60+ years later. Although the Jag's interior is stunning I like the overall look of the Porsche
The Porsche 550 may not be the ideal car in winter for the snowy roads of Vermont... but surely in summer in the Adirondacks, it must be fun to drive.

If one day Hive goes high enough, maybe one of these wonders will end up in our garages 🤞
Wow, the new owner of that Jaguar XK120 Coupe is really lucky. What a beautiful improvement to the body compared to Jaguar's effort. And one of a kind, too.
Pininfarina, at that time, was often a step above in design :
