Chronicles of Alan: My Friend, Brian # 8 - by @awgbibb

in #cars7 years ago (edited)

So Brian hears about someone's partially completed project that the owner has run out of Steam on.

It is a 914/916 with uprated Brakes , Suspension , and Gearbox With wider Mudguards , similar to those shown in 8 cylinder conversion YouTube Videos on this Post.

These Cars were known as VW-Porsche's and were never really accepted by the Porsche Fraternity, despite being a real mid-engined Sportscar!

The 914 came with the Fuel injection Flat four 1700cc motor from the 411/412 VW models and the 914-6 or 916 came with the lowest spec Porsche Flat six motor.

Brian finished off the Bodywork , sprayed it ( Red ,of course!)

But, wait for it, Listen to the Trumpets?, he had just completed a Drag Racing Chevy V8 , and the supposed, new Owner, never came to get it!

302 Cubic inch, special Con-Rods, Pistons and Crank, 2 x 4 -Barrel Holley Carbs, Big Port Aluminium Heads , as used in Trans -am Racing car's in the USA, Iskenderian Full Race Camshaft, Branches . 8500rpm rev limit! In excess of 500 HP.

Obviously, a match made in Heaven, this lightweight car with superb Braking, as well as Great Handling courtesy of the mid-engine!

These Cars came with a removable Targa style Roof section, Brian welded the roof in for more stiffness and rigidity!

Another V8 engined 914 on the Highway!

This car could do a 10 second quarter mile !

A 914-6 for Sale!

Brian had been married before , and one day came home to find , his Wife and 2 kids gone as well as everything in the House. No contact whatsoever, only met his Kids again in their late teens!

Brian's car had a Top Speed in excess of 300KPH!

Meanwhile he had married again and gained a Daughter with this. His wife and him had a little Boy , born with a hole in the heart.

I forget the age but I think it was that , they could only operate on this when the Boy was about 2 years old?

One night Brian's Wife Cindy ,phones Me in a Panic, their Son had been taken to Hospital in an emergency situation, had died on the operating table !

Brian had gone haring off in his Car, no he was not with me, said , please call me as soon as he gets back.

An hour later I get the call. There is a Double Decker section on the Highway in Johannesburg, extremely bumpy , speed limit 80kph.

Brian is now home, has been doing 300kph , largely airborne on that section ( probably trying to kill himself).

I had a long Religious Chat with Brian, he seemed to feel a bit better, but how do you console someone with that kind of loss!

There is still more to come on My Friend Brian, please bear with me as I recall these happenings and People in my Life!

very nice cars video my friend @africaunited i like post and resteemid

Awesome car! those are so light, I can't imagine how fast they are. like a miata with a v8!

this is what I enjoy reading. Thanks for the info down memory lane with so-hatred by Porscha enthusiasts - the 914

Yeah...that was heart-wrenching, @awgbibb - You were a good friend just being with him - sometimes that's enough

everybody deserves a friend like you. Brian should stay strong and obviously your words and chats with him saved him somehow.
hopefully he will feel better and recover from that trauma. He's got a pretty nice car though.

This is the saddest story. The only thing you can do with a friend who has experienced such a loss is be there, and let them guide the conversation.

Wow beautiful car my dear brother

Such a sad and sweet story at the same time. Thank you for writing about your friend Brian.

Sorry about Brian's loss - Can never put myself in that situation. I'd hate to find myself there. Not with one of my kids. It's unthinkable.

Enjoying all this car project stuff. It's lank interesting. I want an Alfa GTsomething one day. I really do!! I know the engine parts are so pricey etc - so what, they are pieces of art.

I own a 156 Alfa GT 3.2 V6 ( still waiting for an engine overhaul) All parts purchased , Resprayed ( Red)
Should not be more than a month?
