I MET THIS BLUE VOLVO BEAUTY FROM 1960 AND HIS OWNER TODAY .....

I was on my way to work today, when I had to stop for gas when I was parked next to this beauty. The older man saw i was looking at the car and said proud, he is as old as i am! I had a laugh and told him i was looking at the license plate, because my dad’s name is Al and he is born on the 19th of September. but i had to admit i loved the car aswell. it was all shiney and the owner was so proud and told me he bought it years ago and he was only driving it on special occasions. He gave me the place where i could find all about the car for my “information” as he called it, i wanted to explain what Steemit is but didn’t bother.

I hope I got it correct : Light Blue VOLVO PV544 b ~ 1961 Sport and Not For Sale!

Original 4 cylinder B18 engine with 95hp (2 x 1bbl SU carburetors)

The model 544 Volvo which was introduced in 1947 as a 544 was said to be a smaller version of a 1942 Ford. The Volvo 544 was introduced in 1958 and its production ran until 1965. Still very little had changed in its appearance much like the Volkswagen of the same period.

This PV544 Sport is an excellent example of the best of their time. This Volvo has had minor restoration although changes, maintenance and fixes were made when they were needed the last 60 years. This car was in tip top shape today and has been throughout its life! And I saw the love he had for his car. He called it a he, i like to call it a she. The paint was refinished in Volvos Light Blue color many years ago and it still looks great today. Under close inspection, you will find some minor imperfections from road running which should be expected from a 50 plus year old car. With that said, this is a great car to get married in! Bumpers are in great condition. This is literally a No Rust car which is quite unusual for these Volvos. But the garage is his home the man told me. Some bidings were made but he doesn’t want to sell.

For the interior, The seating has been refinished front and back including new inner padding for complete comfort. All features work perfectly including all lights inside and out, all gauges, the speedometer, odometer, wipers, heater and even the AM radio. Shifting is smooth and easy. All windows roll up and down easily. All glass is original and clear.

The original B18 4-cylinder 95hp engine is unstoppable and quite powerful for its day and size. The 2 x 1-barrel SU carburetors are tuned to perfection. The engine starts, runs and drives beautifully. The Synchromesh 4-speed transmission shifts as smooth as silk. With five oversized main bearings, these PV544s never seem to wear out. Other positives to the Volvo 544 are that they are extremely easy to maintain and parts are affordable and available when needed. Nothing isn’t available when it can be ordered for instance in the USA. There are a lot of Volvos in the States.

Overall, this Volvo for me was just a beauty that I saw at the gas station and I recognised a proud owner, and I can imagine the fun to drive in such a beauty anywhere. They are said to be safe and reliable and are rarely seen on the road today but when you see one, you definitely look at it. For me it was fun because, as I grew up we had a Volvo, and this licence plate took me back in time for a bit and reminded me of my dad.

When you have an old timer in the Netherlands you do not pay road tax. You do not pay a road tax if you have an old-timer that is 40 years or older on 1 January. If your car is 25 to 40 years old, you are eligible for a quarterly rate. The number of old timer and vintage cars in the Netherlands has increased by a quarter since 2014. On 1 January 2018, the Netherlands had around 141 thousand classic passenger cars of 40 years or older. In 2014, there were approximately 115 thousand. Not all of these cars are allowed on the road. Later figures were not available to me. But some old timers are great investments.

What a beautifully maintained classic car. This guy has been all about keeping that car in tip-top shape for 59 years - amazing dedication! I wonder how many stories he could tell about that car.

After doing this blog and seeing that people love it it’s a shame on my part that I didn’t ask more, he wanted to tell me but I was in a hurry , missed chance

Maybe by chance you will meet again some day and you'll learn more then! :)

Thank you dear

What an absolute BEAUT! I love vintage cars!!! You should have gotten a pic of you in the car ;)

After seeing the comments I had to ask that for sure and learn more about the past of his girl

I would have expected nothing different from you hehe :)

The sturdy old cars definitely are keepers, love seeing them on the road and always marvel at what good service and pleasure they brought their owners.

Nice share!

I know my husband would want one if he had the chance , money and an empty garage

What a beauty!!!

And so old and seeing it so nice is a treat

If only that classic Volvo could talk, can you imagine the the stories it could tell?! @brittandjosie And for a 50-year-old, it's in mint condition and has way fewer dings than me!😀

Surprisingly the glossy, light blue refinished paint color is soothing to the eye. I'd be seen driving it around town in a heartbeat!💓

My favorite takeaway is I learned that "senior citizen" cars go to the Netherlands to live out their Golden Years! 🇳🇱🚗🇳🇱

Do they come here? I know we have a lot of collectors here bacause the taxes are so low on golden oldies! If only they could talk

Wow! What a "coincidence" @brittandjosie ...

"I had a laugh and told him i was looking at the license plate, because my dad’s name is Al and he is born on the 19th of September."

... or was it? 😉 That is amazing you would see that detail on a "random" license plate!

Very nicely preserved car. Reminds me of a good friend from my past. He referred to himself as a "motorhead," given his passion for constantly working on restoring his old car. Which he, in turn, referred to as a "money pit" given all the $$ he had thrown done that "hole" to pursue his hobby.

He was wise enough to give his wife a great deal of credit for how patient she was with him, given the alternative uses of those $$s she had in mind ... Hahaha 😊

I don’t believe in coincidence I love coincidences and that became a blog. On the other hand I didn’t took the most out of the opportunity but I sure will the next time

What a beauty of a car. I can see why you admired it.

Yes I saw it and just instantly took out of my phone to capture the moment

That's so neat that the licence plate matched your dad's name and birthday! That car certainly does look beautiful. It must be great fun to ride in.

I've never heard of a 'road tax' before. Is it the same as a 'toll' where you pay to drive on a specific piece of road?

I told my dad and showed the pictures and he said if only I had some spare cash I would have said to the owner can I buy it!

I love old cars, I wish I still had some of the beauties I owned growing up @brittandjosie 👍

You did? Wow! Not any more ? Well I say blog about it I live to see / read the story

Beautiful car @brittandjosie! I can just imagine this guy, smiling from ear to ear, proud of his "child" I bet he wanted to tell you all about it!

He was proud indeed , and was so in love that the waterfall of info could have been so much more if only the blond wasn’t in a hurry hahahahah

What are the chances that the plate matched your dad's name and b-day??? Crazy! That's a sign if I ever saw one :-)

Sounds like a cool old man that was enthusiastic that you took the time to talk with him. You were probably right not to get into the whole steemit thing. I tried that once and regretted ever even opening my mouth. Sometimes we have to just not bother. This whole post brought a smile to my face, not just because of the beautiful car, but how you made this man's day (regardless of your interest level). You know he drove away feeling really good. Such a feel good post! :-D

Yes I stopped explaining the steem thing but I also am not very comfortable to tell what I do daily. So this encounter was about love , love for cars and in the end I had a nice idea for a blog. And nope I don’t believe in coincidence this was meant to be

Lovely car!

This was such a beautiful blue old lady

I've always been partial to Volvo's,, but they have been out of my reach financially.

My father was a Master Mechanic and Master Welder. He had his own business working on motorized vehicles (I grew up in a small, at the time mostly agrarian small town, so he worked on tractors as well as trucks and cars) AND he had a sizeable "Junk Yard" which was sort of my playground growing up.
Car parts and hood ornaments were my preferred toys. It's neat to find an old car that is in such good shape @brittandjosie.

Did you ever blog about it ? Please do and let me know I am not really a woman with knowledge but I love watching them

Actually I did, sort of. I posted a serialized story that was my Mama's account of her life, both before and after she married my father, up to the point just after I was born.

Then I added an epilogue in MY own words.
There were many photos in there (that I inserted into mama's words.)
Old photos, mostly B&W, some of the shop and my daddy

It is a real beauty thanks for sharing.

That’s highly appreciated and you are so right blue beauty

This post was featured at #PYPT or PYPT! Have a nice day and greetings from Argentina.

I already told you in steemterminal Discord but again this is highly appreciated

It's beautiful! And I love that the older cars pay lower taxes. What a great idea, less junk for the junk yards and more beauty on the roads.

Yes the tax part is a nice tax rule and we preserve that way

What a beauty. I admire whoever is able to keep a car this old in such great conditions

He said it was a daily thing for years and that he now only has to put gas in it
I don’t know I just loved it

I share your love for old cars and also do posts of them every now and then.
The Volvo is indeed a great car and certainly well looked after.
Blessings!

I was never a huge fan but up close and personal it’s nice to blog about

Oh, so you are not a huge fan Lol.
I hope that the Volvo and the old man's dedication will change your mind.
Every old car in mint condition has a very special soul looking after it.
Some of them have great stories to post about their lives.
Blessings!

What a fabulous old car! It reminds me of the ones I grew up with! Ha ha. That’s really neat that you learned so much about it.

I wish I grew up in one of these hahah

She is a beauty indeed, I think the owner is mistaken, must be a she to be so gorgeous;)

I vote it’s a she aswell hahah

I love those cars, you can tell they're very well preserved. I wish I had one like that someday.

I wish this for my hubby as a present 😉

Howdy brittandjosie! That is such a marvelous find and you have great taste in cars! lol. I love most classic cars too. This is a wonderful post, great job!

This VOLVO looks in pristine condition. I can just imagine how proud the owner is. And a beautiful color too. No way you can pass by and not admire it.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello @brittandjosie happy to speak to you again. A very nice 1961 Volvo and a really nice post. I am sure the owner was really happy to talk about his treasured Volvo.
