Dodge has officially introduced its much talked-about 2018 Challenger SRT Demon. Dodge claims the demon is the fastest muscle car ever, with a 6.2L V8 engine featuring a large 2.7L supercharger with boost pressure increased to 14.5 psi, higher 6,500 rpm the demon is officially the fastest muscle car ever built.
There is enough launch power to pull a wheelie, and Guinness World Records certified the production car as traveling 2.92 feet with the front wheels off the ground. But dogde is touting the Demon, a street-legal factory track car, as the world’s quickest quarter-mile production car certified by the National Hot Rod Association. Dodge execs also say the Demon is quicker than the Tesla Model S.
The Demon is barely street-legal with its V8 that can produce up to 840 HP and 770 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful American car ever. It’s also the quickest car in the world, with an NHRA-certified 0-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 9.65 seconds at 140 mph. That's like going to school in a rocket.
At full throttle, the Demon can suck all of the air out of a single-car garage in less than two minutes.
The 14.5 psi boost is powered by a strengthened rods, pistons and valvetrain; twin dual-stage fuel pumps and the largest hood scoop ever used on a muscle car.
with its v8, 8-speed automatic transmission that’s been re-engineered to handle the torque, a stronger drive shaft, a beefed-up rear axle and a set of larger half shafts, the Demon cools things down by routing refrigerant from its air conditioner system through a chilling unit that helps drop the temperature of the ambient air by up to 45 degrees before the supercharger stuffs it into the cylinder.
Much like the exterior, the Demon’s interior is built around the Hellcat’s, which in turn is based on the revised Challenger cabin that Dodge launched for the 2015 model year. Design-wise, there aren’t many changes to talk about, but customers will notice the Demon head logos on the seat backs, the Alcantara steering wheel, the white-faced gauges in the instrument cluster, the bespoke TFT display, and the carbon-fiber badge with "Demon" script.
The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon gives the driver the capability to set up the car for on-road precision, maximum drag strip performance or anything in between.
For safety the Demon comes with two key fobs. There’s a black fob that limits power to 500 horsepower and the red fob that unleashes the car’s full output. Valet Mode limits the engine to 4,000 rpm, while Eco Mode revises transmission shifting to include second-gear starts.
It is what it is, THE DEMON.
