Another cabriolet (maybe I may need some sun to escape the Canadian winter, still cold this morning -14°C) after the Veritas Scorpion Cabriolet and the Fiat 1100 Cabriolet, Bonhams during its Amelia Island Sale will auction this splendid 1951 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet with a coachwork by Pinin Farina. The starting price of the bid is already high, $US 600,000.
History of the Alfa Romeo 6C
The Alfa Romeo 6C was presented during the Salone dell' Automobile di Milano in 1925 with 1,487 cc in-line six cylinder (referred to 6C) engine, version 6C 1500. The production began two years later until 1952. It's only in 1938 that the 2500 version was introduced with a 2,443 cc engine designed by Vittorio Jano. The destruction of the Alfa Romeo's Portello factory during World War II stopped the production that will resume with the model 6C 2500 Freccia d'Oro in 1946.
'The current Alfa Romeo conceals as beautiful a chassis as ever with four-wheel independent suspension and a six-cylinder twin overhead camshaft unsupercharged engine...' - The Autocar, July 1947.
For this model, the coachwork was designed by Pinin Farina, Italian car design. But most of the bodyworks of Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 was made by Touring (Milan). In 50's, this car represented more the Alfa Romeo's past than its future, the Alfa Romeo 1900 was introduced in 1950 in Paris. But still beautiful...

Specification
With 3 Weber carburetors, the 2,443cc DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine produces 110 hp at 4,800 rpm and can reach 155 kmh.
This Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet is one of the last example to have Pinin Farina Cabriolet coachwork. In 2010, the car was restored in Brescia (Italy) by Luzzago Brothers and finished in burgundy with a beautiful leather interior.
