Why is it that life kicks you when you're down? Now, don't get me wrong, bad things happen to good people - no exceptions - and we've already let you guys in on what we've been dealing with over the last two years (If you want to read it, here you go: Mum has gone)
So in the aftermath of Hazel's death, we started the process of sorting through her Will and her father's Trust regarding the property. We live in a lovely area of The Lake District, in one of two cottages surrounded by a garden and orchard.
Ben's grandfather bound the property in a Trust to go to Ben and his brother, providing Hazel a home there for her lifetime, provided she looked after it all, and organised how it all would be split between her two sons.
Thing is - Hazel never did get round to doing this, and now...well now, we find ourselves in a situation where we may lose our home because there is an obscene amount of Inheritance Tax to pay.
(Yup - this pretty much sums up how much IHT truly sucks)
So what next? we put on our big girl - and big boy - pants, and we get down to business. It's time to become experts on Probate, what types of Trusts there are here in the U.K. and Inheritance Tax. Yippeee...
Thankfully, Ben and I are "Glass Half Full" people, meaning we've put our trust in The Universe, and that what it brings is what we need in order to grow.
Normal service will resume - please trust in that! In fact, we are heading out tomorrow on a road trip in the Audi Q4 e-tron S Line - yay!
My good friend Jocelyn is getting married, so we are heading down South to share in their special day. More when we have it.
Thank you all, and enjoy!
Annabelle 😋
I don't envy you, not one little bit, and I'm sorry it's rolling out like this. I've written posts about wills and preparing for death in the past and whilst a few had openly admitted they have stuck their head in the sand (a bad idea) most see the importance...but then, if it's not actually done, problems occur and it's left to those remaining, often also still in the process of grieving to sort out.
This doesn't help you at all, (this comment), of course, but it's a sad fact.
I hope things improve, and by the sound of your attitude you'll find a way forward even if that path is a little bumpy.
Silverstone F1 is on this weekend though, so hopefully one of the Brits can pull one out of the bag and stand on the top step huh? I'll be watching, as always, and I hope y'all find some time also...despite the wedding that is inconveniently scheduled on a F1GP weekend. Lol.
Thank you, @galenkp - it really is a sucky time...Ben and I make a good team though (and Cabie Bat the Cat makes three) so we will get through this.
Annabelle 😞
I understand, and empathize.
All the best sorting out this issue.
Thank you, @j85063 - it's gonna take a lot of work!
Annabelle
Good to get away from the stress, enjoy the break
It was good, @grindle
Still recovering two days later though!
Annabelle
sounds like it was deffo a good time !
In these difficult times, the state makes things even more difficult... It's important to plan well before as @galenkp says. All the courage to get through this new "tribulations". And enjoy the wedding and the champagne 😀
That's the kicker, @heroldius - we were told it was all sorted. Problem is, it wasn't, and we are left trying to sort it all out.
Why does this country have to have such a sucky law???
Annabelle 😧
