How To Care Your Sick Kittens At Home Treatment/Remedy?
Having a sick kitten can make any cat lover feel helpless and scared. One of the first things they want to know is how to care for a sick kitten at home.
Many of those who have pet kittens can see that your favorite kitten is going to be a mother which you did not know beforehand and often is their short period delivery.
But short period delivery is a premature delivery. So through this delivery, the newborn kittens do not grow properly and most of them die. And the survivals often suffer sickness. The sick kittens are below one month. They can keep had by home treatment. No vet is needed for this. We need the aid of a Vet in case of major problems.

Immature lungs are lacking in surfactant-the moisture which lines the airways in the lungs. Keep the kitten in a humid environment to prevent the lungs from drying out. NOTE: Some veterinarians suggest administering steroids and antibodies to help the immature lungs develop in preemies.

Keep the kittens separated. Keep them in a room/place where adult cats are not allowed. The room/place should be neat and clean and free from germs. The room should be comfortable and some light and air are allowed. The kittens should always be kept comfortable. Sometimes the mother cats remain separate for lack of milk. So you should give time with the kittens for their comfort. If not possible, keep them with the mother. If the mother is unwilling to stay with the kittens, keep them in a clean case.
Premature kittens need to be kept warmer than full-term kittens, after all, if they had gone full term, their time in their mother’s body would have remained at about 101 degrees Fahrenheit. Try to maintain the heat for a preemie at 95 degrees (35degrees) for the few weeks, gradually reducing it to 85 degrees (30degrees) by 4 weeks and then maintaining it at 80 degrees(27degrees) until the kittens seem to have reached a typical state of development of a weaning kitten.
Because premature kittens need to be extra warm, it is easy for them to become dehydrated. To avoid the problem, the preemie can be given sub-q fluids in addition to its regular feedings.
Often Premature kittens are too weak to feed or haven’t learned how to swallow properly yet. The preemie will need to be tube fed, with special care taken to use a small tube and to insert it to the correct length.
As far as possible, avoid using the remedy to the kittens, as they may not withstand the reaction of the remedy. Give them home treatment as far as possible. Put them in medium temperature, not very hot or very cold. Put them in all times watching. It will be very hard to keep fit if any of them begins to suffer loose stool.
They should be fed timely. Milk them hourly. Clean and dry them as soon as they urinate. Their living room should always be free from germs. Their room should always be kept dry. Otherwise, they will be sick again. If any of them suffers eye-problem. Keep the affected one separate from others. Others may have eye-problem from the affected one. So it should be kept separate. And then give it treatment separately. Clean its eye with the soft dry pad at every hour, and give warm vapor to its eye with the pad. This makes it comfortable and the eye-problem will gradually remove. In case of a major problem, consult a vet. But the home treatment should be given preferred, if it favors, no vet is necessary.
If at all possible, the kitten should receive the Colostrum milk from its mother. It is too weak to nurse, “milk” the mother and adds it to the tube feeding formula.
Sometimes sick kittens do not feel like eating their regular food and have to be given something different just to make them more interested in eating. By changing the brand or flavor, you might be able to get your kitten interested enough to taste some of the food. When your kitten is sick even getting a little amount of food in him can make a difference. Here are a few foods that are easier for kittens to eat.
- Gravy-based cat food
- Packaged chicken-flavored baby food
- Boiled chicken
- Unseasoned, cooked rice
- Try using a milk replacer powder for cats if you don’t have a liquid food prescribed by a Vet. Do not use ordinary milk
- The food should be at room temperature, or preferably slightly warmer but not hot.
Try to spend more time with your kitten. The most common reason that kittens become depressed is that they are not shown enough attention. To combat your kitten’s depression and get her to start eating again, play with her and show her love as much as you can. Hold her while you are working or watching a movie, play with her in the mornings and afternoons, and praise her with treats and affection.
Cats do like their sleep, but keeping your kitty active a little each day goes a long way in preventing obesity. This is especially important for kittens as you want to start her off on the right foot or paw.
