Catalonia, Spanish prosecutor calls for the arrest of Puigdemont "Supreme Court rejects request"

The Spanish prosecutor asked the Supreme Court judge Pablo Llarena to reactivate the European arrest warrant against the deposed president of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont, who arrived this morning in Copenhagen. The euro-order had been withdrawn in December due to the risk that Belgium would deny the extradition of Puigdemont.

For three months Puigdemont has been in Belgium to avoid arrest (Spanish justice accuses him of rebellion, secession and embezzlement and other crimes connected with the unilateral declaration of independence of 27 October). On December 5, the Spanish judge Pablo Llarena decided to withdraw the European arrest orders against Puigdemont and his 4 former councilors who had fled to Brussels, but kept the arrest warrant in Spain.

Judge Pablo Llarena of the Spanish Supreme Court rejected the General Prosecutor's request for a European arrest warrant against the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont.
The arrest request was filed after Puigdemont left Belgium for two days of commitments in Denmark this morning. The judge explained in a statement that the prosecutor's request is reasonable, but adds that there are nuances that lead to the conclusion that an order of that kind should be postponed
