Harmony- A next generation public blockchain where decentralized economies can experience security, scalability, decentralization.

in #cateredcontent5 years ago

Harmony is a highly scalable, optimized, reliable, secure and efficient blockchain technology.
Harmony was created to achieve a decentralised Coordination at scale it is a complete new level. Having the power to designed a decentralized am economy of the future and the ability to get funding complaints to the company. It is an open infrastructure for the world data and same time built on a POS system .
Harmony launches their main net to solve blockchain hardest challenge ever. I.e linearly, scaling.
Scalability is the property of a system to handle a growing work by adding its resources. It was a real issue faced by many projects.
Cryptokitties: It has a large network system and one of the most acesible ways to experience the block chain technology, hence planning to enhance its platform.

The high-performance protocol of multiple shards reach consensus in an efficient manner and remain integral to the Harmony network with its robust security features. In simple words, the state of different shards remain in harmony with each other, despite the fact that their state, their transaction, account balance, etc all are different, yet they are one and all.

The primary objective is to offer a scalable architecture of blockchain network with full-stack approach and by innovating every layer of blockchain and employing deep sharding in it. But it equally guarantees security and decentralization.

Harmony chains
Harmony have two chains having both the beacon and shards chains.
Beacon chains
An indentified blockchain which is generated from a generator while shards are to store separate block chain states and processing fast multiple transactions In the system.
It also help to generate huge numbers of influence which validators are assigned to a particular transactions.

State Sharding
The shards can communicate with each other using cross-shard communication. The balances can be moved, a smart contract can run across the shards. As the structure is complex in Harmony due sharding, Harmony prefers to use Kademlia protocol which propagates through the nodes with O(log(n)) distance instead of O(n). So the message can be broadcasted faster than peer to peer protocol.

So how can a network be designed with such a complex structure, where everything varies from one shard to the other?
Yes, that is exactly what Harmony is up to. That is why it is unique, that is why it is a genuine composition.

Harmony assigns the nodes to the shards and defines a time interval known as epoch; which is a terminology used in Harmony network. Interestingly, the nodes also vary from one epoch to the other.

The nodes are randomly assigned to the shards of the network in each epoch. That random number is computed by VRF and delayed by VDF before being revealed. The delay is done particularly to check last-revealer attack. The DRG protocol governs the generation of random number based on VRF and VDF and then it is computed and committed in the block. Based on the random number, the nodes are assigned to the shards.

Resharding
It seems like the opposite of sharding but it enables you to increase or decrease the number of shards in a stream to order to adapt to changes in the data flowing through Its stream. It is usually performed by administrative application. Resharding can be challenging. It requires an updating the sharding data. Sharding: it shows the efficiency in its database. It is not only used as a network communication but in the validation of having a secure platform .

NEXT GENERATION OF SHARDING BASED BLOCKCHAIN.
The use of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) a more energy efficient consensus mechaism as its randomness generation mechanism gives it a one ahead of other sharding-based blockchain projects like Zilliqa that uses Proof-of-work (PoW) as its randomness generation mechanism that consumes more energy.
While likes of Zilliqa uses Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT), a consensus protocol that has communication complexity, Harmony adopted the less complex consensus protocol called Fast Byzantine Fault Tolerance (FBFT), an improved consensus version on PBFT. PBFT selects a node to serve as leader and rest of the nodes serves as validators. The leader's node present its proposal to the validators whose in turn votes on the proposal and forward it to all validators of the block for verification. This process involves two different stages, the prepare stage and commit stage thus delay in throughput.

Scalability remains a main stay problem in different blockchain projects from Ethereum to Zilliqa, Stellar and rest. While the likes of Bitcoin, Ethereum uses the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus protocol, other blockchain projects EOS, IOTA, XRP, and likes have adopted different consensus protocol such as Proof-of-Stake (PoS), Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS), all in the aim of improving scalability, but non has been able to improve scalability efficiently without sacrificing other important feature such as security.

Harmony implementation in other activities.
With the remarkable development of Harmony, we shall be able see a numerous number of applications and activities being built and run on the Harmony infrastructure including gaming, large scale economies, enterprise infrastructure, etc.
Being a gaming enthusiast, I speculate that Harmony will be a great inclusion in the gaming community and will provide a great platform for game development including racing games, first-person shooter, adventure and simulation games.
