Yana is a small place located in North Karnataka at the Sahyadri range of western ghats. It is famous for it's two huge monolithic rocks called Mohini Shikhara, which is 90 meters tall and the other one is Bhairaveshwara Shikhara which is 120 meters tall. This entire area is surrounded by green forest, if you are a nature lover it will leave you awestruck for a moment.
But there is also a interesting story behind this place in Hindu Mythology.
This is the story of Demon King Bhasmasura. Who has got a boom from Lord Shiva that whomever he touches they will burn into ashes. Bhasmasura never used this boon for good purpose instead he wanted to kill Lord Shiva by keeping his hand on Lord Shivas head. But, Lord Shiva comes to know about Bhasmasuras plan and to destroy him Lord Shiva come to Bhasmasura in the form of Mohini (a beautiful girl). By seeing Mohini's beauty Bhasmasura get distracted and agrees to Mohini's conditions. The condition was simple Bhasmasura has to imitate the same dace steps what Mohini performs. The dance begins and Bhasmasura was able to imitate all the steps of Mohini. But at the end Mohini keeps her own hand on her head, here Bhasmasura forgets about his super power and he also keeps his own hand on his head burns into ashes.
In this entire area the color of the soil is black. It's said that Bhasmasura was burnt here so the color of the soil is Black in color.
There is also a small temple below the cave which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Usually in all the Hindu temples devotees have to take one round to the temple to complete the pradakshina but here if you enter the cave from one end and you will come out from the other end, that completes the revolution or pradakshina to the temple.
We really don't know which one to follow science or the myth. It all depends on your belief. We completely had fun while exploring this place. Looking forward for more trips like this with my girly gang :)
