Cebu city Philippines
An honest assessment of our modern lifestyle makes one realize that Cebuanos today are raised in a culture detached from nature. This is observed by overcrowding of buildings, with the objective of maximizing buildable areas within limited land resources. Malls have evolved in the cities, patronized by the youth probably to relax in comfortable air conditioned structures and be lured by the variety of commodities on sale. Computer games and the internet access at home have lessened physical exercise and children's activities in the garden. Gone are the days with weekends spent swimming in a nearby beach with lechon for lunch. Seawater then was clean and rivers had clear flowing water.
In order to address the long standing need for an environmentally oriented philosophy in the planning and design of Cebu, we have to adopt the "Greening Cebu" approach to the development of the prime province in the south. With the rapid urbanization and socioeconomic development of cebu as tourism hub, the service of a Landscape Architecture provide a "sense of place' by designing with nature for better quality of life for its constituents and visitors.
"Dreaming of Cebu as an emerging world class city" comparable to developed industrial progress countries is something that I personally see from a different perspective. The uniqueness of a cebu province endowed with a rich history, a hospitable and participative civil and business community, and exciting tourist destinations makes cebu my pride.
Cebu will definitely do well to provide defines open spaces, parks, playgrounds, and community gardens before the air pollution brought about by heavy traffic becomes uncontrollable.Community engagement in participatory governance is the key to making cebu the pride of every cebuano.
