A phenomenon stops the vision and concentrates it in a lightning that shines by itself as if it were an extraplanetary event.

The Lightning of the Catatumbo is a natural phenomenon that produces many electrical storms in the basin of the lake Of Maracaibo, in the fishing village Congo mirador, pertaining to the Zulia state in Venezuela.
After 20 hours nature is paralyzed in the Venezuelan West, as a natural phenomenon makes history to become the first event in the world with the highest average lightning known as the Catatumbo Lightning or Maracaibo Lighthouse. They tend to occur in multiple places every night, but from a distance they are seen as a unique phenomenon.

It is visible from different points as a single electrical storm and it takes place about 160 nights a year.
This phenomenon is characterized by the vision of a series of lightning almost continuously and virtually silent for the great distances needed to observe the phenomenon, which occurs in clouds of great vertical development forming electric shocks between 1 and almost 4 kilometers of height, as the winds associated with the Low Level Nocturnal Jet of the Lake Maracaibo Basin penetrate the surface of the lake in the afternoon hours (when the evaporation is greater) and are forced to ascend through the mountainous system of Perijá.

One of the explanations that would probably give rise to the event is the amount of flammable gases that are released from the oil sources of the Lake basin.

The origin of this phenomenon is in the orographic effect of these mountain ranges that enclose and brake the northeasterly winds; thus, clouds of great vertical growth are produced, concentrated mainly in the Catatumbo river basin. This phenomenon is very simple to appreciate from several kilometers away, as from Cúcuta, in Colombia, or from the lake itself where there are usually no clouds at night. For this reason, it is also known as the Maracaibo Lighthouse, since the boats that sailed the area could sail during the night without problems at the time of sailing. It can occur up to 260 times a year and lasts up to 10 hours per night; In addition, this phenomenon can reach 60 downloads per minute.

This lightning is admired by Venezuelans, especially in the northwestern state of Zulia, which has a lightning bolt on its official shield to symbolize the phenomenon. Also the letter of the anthem of the Zulia State, whose author is the Zuliano Udón Pérez, includes a stanza that makes reference to this phenomenon.

"The light with which the lightning - tenacious of the Catatumbo - of the nauta sets the course - which limpid lantern"
The wari ethnic group defines it as "the concentration of millions of cocuyos (fireflies) that meet every night in the Catatumbo to pay tribute to the fathers of creation", while the yucpas and the Wayúu attribute it to the presence of the spirits of the fallen guajiros that shine as a kind of message, besides considering it the "eternal radiance in the heights".

The glow of the heights was positioned as the first event on the planet.
Today the eyes of the world settle on Venezuela, this brilliant territory that has not only the most exuberant nature of the blue planet, but also a natural lighthouse that will continue to illuminate by generation the imposing land of Zulia.
