THE FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness is a release of resentment with some offender. In short, it is the renunciation of resentments and indignation that has caused an offense. Forgiveness arises from freedom and charity. However, the presence of forgiveness does not prevent the application of justice to the offender.
Forgiveness is born in the subject who received the offense, because only in this quality can be released from possible resentment against the aggressor. We must know that forgiveness, as liberation, is the fruit of the will of each individual. You can not force yourself to forgive because this action falls on the will, which, even with punishments, does not do what others decide but what it deliberates to do. It can even be said that this obligation violates the nature of forgiveness. Well, if forgiveness tries to rebuild and free from resentment, it can not be carried out fully if it is not by means of freedom
Matthew 18: 21-22Peter approached Jesus and asked him, "Lord, how many times do I have to forgive my brother who sins against me?" Up to seven times? "I'm not telling you that up to seven times, but up to seventy-seven times," Jesus answered.
Matthew 6:14
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
When we forgive we exercise charity to a greater degree, because, if charity is love, and love is the desire for the good of the other, we do good to our offender when we release him from our resentment and possible violence. This does not mean that we have to renounce justice or deserved punishment, but with forgiveness we show our willingness to do good
The forgiveness of sins is a fundamental belief in Christianity, which has been expressed in the creed and in the Lord's Prayer. We say: "I believe in the forgiveness of sins" and "forgive our offenses", respectively. This forgiveness we expect according to the goodness and grace of God and according to our nature, that after having voluntarily departed from God, is capable of good, and in fullness it is by the action of saving grace of Christ.
Acts 2:38Repent and be baptized each one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins - sins - answered Peter -, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Rather, be kind and compassionate to one another, and forgive each other, just as God the God forgave you in Christ.
Ephesians 4:32
When we forgive we are more like God than in other occasions. God, for his perfection is kindness, justice and mercy in the highest degree. Throughout the Old Covenant, God was compassionate and merciful, for He guided the people of Israel by forgiving their sins and doing justice to those who fell into sin. The mercy and justice of God have been fully shown in Christ, who has come to make us children of the Father guiding us to Him in the best possible way.
(John 8 1-11)Christ also forgave sinners and urged them to lead a virtuous life, as in the case of the adulterous woman.
.
Despite the call to conversion and the preaching of God's mercy, Christ has also shown that, when his time comes, he will do justice to those who have led a life far from virtue. The culminating moment of the Son's expression of forgiveness is the absolution of his executioners at the moment of nailing him to the cross. "Father, forgive them because they dont know what they are doing". How can a man who is unjustly tortured be expressed in such a way? No doubt this moment is eloquent because it shows the openness of God's heart to free himself from resentment and remove the guilt of the offenders. Such is the magnitude of God's love, which is willing to free from guilt. However, this does not prevent God, by his perfection, from doing justice.
When they hurt us, they offend or disappoint, there arise in us desires of revenge, judgments of condemnation, but if we go to the presence of God and forgive with the heart, our soul is at peace, joy, freedom, health and our communion is restored With God.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who bear my name, humble themselves and pray, and seek me and abandon their misconduct, I will listen to them from heaven, forgive their sin and restore their land. Forgiveness is part of loving us.
