Abdul Sattar Edhi, Pakistan's 'Father Teresa'
Abdul Sattar Edhi was born in 1928 in a small village of Bantva near Joona Garh, Gujrat (India). Abdul Sattar Edhi began his humatarian work in Pakistan soon after partition of Pakistan and India in 1947. He has created The Edhi foundation with just $500, He began by working for the people of karachi and went on to the centre of providing various services.

Abdul Sattar Edhi established the world's biggest volunteer rescue ambulance service in Pakistan, The Edhi Ambulance service.Not at all like affluent people that reserve philanthropies in their names, Edhi committed his life to the poor from the age of 20, when he himself was destitute in Karachi. The scope of Edhi's establishment developed globally, and in 2005 the association brought $100,000 up in help alleviation for the casualties of Hurricane Katrina.

Throughout his life and after he died, many questioned why Edhi never received the Nobel Peace Prize. Edhi said: "I don't care about it. The Nobel Prize doesn't mean anything to me. I want these people, I want humanity."

He died last year in Karachi of renal failure. He was offered treatment abroad, but insisted on being treated in a government hospital at home. NawazSharif announced a national day of mourning and a state funeral, the first time anyone has been so honoured since General Zia ul-Haq, the military dictator who died in a plane crash in 1988.
“If anyone deserves to be wrapped in the flag of the nation he served, it is him,” Sharif said.
