On this day I come to talk about the fault of San Andrés, this is an issue that has provoked a lot to talk about, because it is not known to happen in the future with regard to this delicate topic, as the people who are located today there , it is not known when they can disappear, in a nutshell, they are in the hands of God and his decisions.
sourceIf you already know what an earthquake is, you will know that failures are one of the causes of earthquakes on the planet and the most characteristic of Western USA, as there are hundreds of faults identified in California. Some 200 are considered potentially dangerous due to their growth rate in recent geological time (the last 10,000 years). More than 70% of California residents live within 30 miles of failures that could cause earthquakes or lighter movements.
The presence of the San Andrés fault had gone unnoticed for years, until the fateful April 18, 1906, when a displacement occurred along nearly 700 kilometers of this fault originated an earthquake that had its epicenter in the vicinity of San Francisco And that, with an intensity close to 8 degrees on the Richter scale, left more than 3000 victims and the city almost devastated.
The San Andrés Fault is a clear example of those known as Strike-slip fault or transformers, a failure that both blocks of rock (the boundaries of each plate) slide horizontally one on the other, unlike what is known as Fal The normal in which there is a staggering of one of the tectonic plates with respect to the other.
California is part of the Circumpacífica seismic area, the famous belt of Fire, and due to the existence of the San Andrés fault is one of the most seismically active zones on the planet and the cause of some of the worst earthquakes in history.
