in #celestialchallenge7 years ago (edited)

Beautifil morning to my fellow stemian and welcome to today's celestialchallenge. This is a post on idolatry as it relates to darkness. Kudos to @sirknight for the inspiration.

idols

One of the greatest darkness that has plagued this world and everyone in it is the sin of idolatry.. Idolatry is like a virus , you never know it's there until it has destroyed something you cherish.
Biblically, God detest it to the uttermost.

WHAT IS IDOLATRY? ????

idolizing money

This is the reverential care and priority you place on a person, place or thing. It's putting something far above every other thing. Let me explain with an example.
Here is a man who loves God, who was very committed to God's work, then all of a sudden, he becomes the manager of a big company and then he is no longer committed with the excuse that he's too busy at work. This man though he has good reasons for reducing his commitment, he has placed his job as a priority over his commitment to God. His job has become his idol. Sad!!!!!!

As Christians, nothing and no one is qualified to take God's number one spot in our life. Remember, He's a jealous God and He doesn't like sharing His attention with anyone or anything else.
In the old testament, God told the children of Israelites thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3-5
In the new testament, there are several places where the bible warns against the sin of idolatry...listed below are a few of those.

  1. 1 Corinthians 10:14
AMP:Therefore, my dearly beloved, shun (keep clear away from, avoid by flight if need be) any sort of idolatry (of loving or venerating anything more than God).

  2. AMP:For be sure of this: that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is greedy for gain]—for he [in effect] is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

  3. Philippians 3:9 AMP:
They are doomed and their fate is eternal misery (perdition); their god is their stomach (their appetites, their sensuality) and they glory in their shame, siding with earthly things and being of their party.

  4. Ezekiel 14:3-4
    AMP

Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts and put the stumbling block of their iniquity and guilt before their faces; should I permit Myself to be inquired of at all by them?.
Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols [of self-will and unsubmissiveness] into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity [idols of silver and gold] before his face, and yet comes to the prophet [to inquire of him], I the Lord will answer him, answer him according to the multitude of his idols,

Finally brethren, flee idolatry, for this is not pleasing in the sight of God...
