Today my post is about Wednesday also known as the day of Mercury. The Roman god a lot of us know as the messenger of the gods. He is also based on other gods, the closest resembling Hermes. The Romans had a thing called Interpretatio romana and would often reinterpret other nations myths into there own culture. The day of Mercury today is known as humpday after you make it over the hump it's all down hill till the weekend, the saying goes.

However his( Mercury's) main qualities the romans ascribed to him was that he was the god of commerce and merchants there are a couple of coins with him on them and even today you can find older U.S.A. ten cent pieces with his image on them called Mercury dimes. They were made of real silver and are worth more then 10 cents now.

Then there is the planet Mercury The smallest and fastest planet in our solar system the speed it travels around our sun is why it was named after the god of speed or messenger of the gods Mercury. Being the closest planet to our sun makes it fairly unlikely that there is any life on it.However that doesn't mean there never was life there. Could an artificial habitat be constructed if someone were to dig deep enough?

Finally the Alchemy connection for Mercury which is also known as quick silver was used in a variety of ways in a process known as transmutation it was often thought that alchemist were only concerned with the transmuting of lead to gold they practiced not only that but the magic was in the changing of them self from lead to gold like Mercury was a divine substance to the alchemist the metal and liquid state was a spirit concept for them.
